My name is Brittany McVey and I am seventeen yearsold. As far back as I can remember I have always had alove for animals, especially horses. I used to ask for ahorse for my birthday every year, and although it neverhappened until I turned 14, I just kept on wishing. Mybirthday is on August 25 and for my eighteenth birthday,I plan to not only get a new horse for my birthday, I planto rescue five of them from an auction where the mostpredictable outcome is slaughter.

Even though the meat is not sold or eaten by Ameri-cans, it is processed here and sent to foreign countries,such as Belgium, France, Germany, and Italy. The mostattended auction is in New Holland, PA., where between200 and 350 horses are auctioned there every Monday.America’s horse has carried us into battle, protected usfrom blinding snow and raging rivers (and??). America’shorse as taken us from New England to Utah, and neverasked us why. The Indians of the early settlementsprotected and worshipped their horses. These animalsneed protection from foreign meat markets.

The Slaughter issue is now up for vote on the Housefloor. HR 503. If it passes, we will have a surplus of80,000 horses per year. What do we do with them? Ihave a plan and so does the rest of America.

My trip will begin on August 25, 2006, from N Ft Myers,FL and end at New Holland, PA. There I will attend theauction, with a friend of the family who has been work-ing in rescue for over a decade. From there, the horseswill receive vaccinations, get their health certificates andtheir Coggins done. I will then be back on the road,leaving the horses at specific approved Equine Rescueson my way back to Ft. Myers. I need to raise funds inorder to purchase these horses. These rescued horseswill be rehabbed and re-homed. Excess funds will goback into a fund called “Forget Me Not “ fund. This isused to pull horses again. The funding gets recycled.With your donation, a life is saved, time after time, oneafter another. The horses get the much-needed love andcare they deserve and you walk away with a phenom-enal feeling of power, that you have saved a life.

Your donation is also worthy of a tax receipt from a non-profit organization. In conjunction with this rescueproject, you will be receiving yours from “Pure Thoughts,Foal rescue”. Towards the end of July our tack room and

other storage trailers were broken into.

Only Western Tack was stolen:

Circle Y Pleasure Saddle, dark self tanned

leather with brandy color suede seat, never

oiled. On the side where you mount there

are prominent scratch marks from

someone’s belt buckle. The horn is rawhide

lace with the Circle Y silver mark. The back

of the seat is rolled with silver metal.

Textan/Hereford Roping saddle, medium

color leather, black suede seat and

aluminum stirrups engraved on one side.

New Black Saddle, has some German silver.

4 new working bridles with bits and 5/8"

reins were also taken. (3) of the bridles/

reins had never been used. The bits

attached were: 6" shank snaffle, snaffle

twisted wire D-ring, and (2) correction bits

with medium ports and swivel shanks.

Horseback Safaris - Standardone-hour, two-hour, or three-hour horseback safaris areavailable daily. HorsebackSafaris can be arranged forriders with varying levels ofexperience. All guests should beat least 12 years of age; 10 years of age is an acceptable agewith proven riding experience. Guests weighing more than275 pounds will need to be assessed by our EquestrianDirector before they are allowed to take a Horseback Safari.Call-in reservations are recommended in order to assure thatwe and our horses are ready for you.

A favorite with visitors is our two-night “Crescent JCattle Drive Weekend Safari,” which includes some training inFlorida Cowhunter skills of ridin’, ropin’ and cow cuttin’.(Florida cattlemen weren’t “cowboys” because hunting thosewild Spanish-descent cattle in Florida’s woods and swampswas a man’s job, they said.) Choice of campground dependson weather, type of group and recommendation of the ridinginstructors.

Another favorite is similar, but shorter – anOvernight Trail Ride Safari combined with a next-day“Rawhide Roundup.” More time is spent riding the wilder-ness trails of Forever Florida and learning about nature, lesson cowpoke skills.
