Hunting - South Africa In South Africa we hunt all year round, however the best period is March - October, when the climate is mild. Most hunting is done on privately owned land, but from time to time hunts are done in government owned reserves. International hunters have come to expect excellent trophy quality and great camps. We have some of the finest hunting areas that will suit the needs of hunters of all ages and levels of experience. Hunting is done in the traditional spot and stalk, but we do make use of blinds from time to time. Knowledgeable guides with years of experience are attuned to your every requirement. We also have the best skinners to prepare your trophies making sure that your memories of the hunt are enhanced and never forgotten. The hunter should be acquainted and comfortable with his/her rifle. The correct rifle and calibre selection is very important. A minimum of .375 is required on big game by South African law. We have year round packages, but each hunter can put together his/her own package according to how many days and species they want. Safaris vary from 7-21 days.

Bow HuntingBow hunting has become very popular in South Africa over the last decade. At Likhulu Safaris we utilise some bow only hunting concessions as well as areas that offer both bow and firearm hunting. Whether you prefer sitting in a tree stand or walk and stalk at Likhulu Safaris we pride ourselves in accommodating everyone’s needs. With Professional Hunters who specialize in bow hunting and whom are avid bow hunters themselves, you can be sure of their expertise. The best time for bow hunting is in our drier months namely August, September and October as game will be more concentrated around watering holes. Shots will range between 15 to 45 yards and we recommend you bring a 50+ pound bow with which you are familiar. One thing to keep in mind when planning a bow hunting safari is the moon phase. The darker the moon the better the hunting during the day, as game will be less active at night and more active during daytime.

Wing Shooting In South Africa we have great wing shooting and our diversity of species, make it a great experience. During end March - middle June the accent is on rock pigeon and doves. Pigeon and Dove shoots are high volume hot-barreled action where you can expect to shoot anything from 250 to 1500 rounds with a kill rate of 20% to 60%, depending on the skill of the hunter.

Driven Guinea Fowl is a very exciting experience! Depending on the areas that we hunt, we will use anywhere from 5 to 100 beaters to drive the Guinea Fowl towards you. We hunt numerous different species of duck and geese. Hunting is done from blinds on harvested peanut fields for geese and farm ponds/lakes for ducks; we decoy the birds into the guns. Shoots may be early morning or late afternoon. Francolin/Partridge hunting is done over well trained Pointers where you can enjoy the splendid scenery of South Africa. Francolin/Partridge hunting may be either early morning or late afternoon. We have set seasons for birds and that is usually between May-August. Bag limits are in place, but vary from area to area. Please contact us for more information. To book a bird hunting safari you have to book a minimum of 3 hunters. We only book 4-6 groups of bird hunters a year ensuring good hunting. So book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Photographic SafarisSouth Africa (the most Southern country on the African Continent), the “RAINBOW NATION”, is one of the most modern African countries. Bordering South Africa to the North are Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe and to the East are Mozambique and Swaziland. South Africa is an incredible destination in so many ways – it is the kind of destination that will touch all your senses. When all is said and done you probably won’t be the same again. South Africa offers some of the most diverse terrain from beautiful coastlines, abundant wildlife, mountains, grasslands, to unspoilt beaches of the Wild Coast. Whether you want to relax at a five star lodge, taste some of the finest local wines, take a hot air balloon ride over a National Park or fly fish in the streams in the Drakensberg Mountains, we can put together the trip of a lifetime tailored to your specifications.
