PRINCIPAL GABRIEL COOPER SHARES NEW BOOK WITH STAFF

Specialized Foundation filmed and featured Wi% Rogers Middle School on their website.

Will Rogers is participating in a nation wide Healthy Schools Program to establish a school wellness council consisting of students, parents, principal, faculty, and staff, to evaluate the school in wellness modules to improve our school wellness: Wellness Council and Policy, Snacks and Beverages, Breakfast and Lunch, Health Education, Physical Education, and Physical Activity, and Employee Wellness. Healthy kids have higher attendance rates, higher test scores and behave better in class. More than 27,000 schools nationwide are using Healthy Schools Program to make this the norm. HSP looks at the latest research on childhood health and combines it with the most effective school policies to maximize impact. Using the wellness modules to create a workable framework and setting specific actions will help make our school healthier.

Members attend chapter meetings in Room 3 on Fridays after school, from 2:30-3. Chapter meetings are organized and led by students alternating leadership roles. Club Live promotes     healthy lifestyle choices: living free from the influence of tobacco, drugs and alcohol.

Every year, Club Live hosts school wide lip sync auditions, winners are invited to perform at the Crest Theatre. The 18th annual Club Live Countywide Lip Sync Competition was on Friday, March 20th from 7-9pm. In the last quarter, the chapter forms a committee to plan an Environmental Prevention

Project with local alcohol/tobacco merchants. The goal of the project is to limit minor's access to alcohol/tobacco advertising, products and influence.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend our Friday Chapter Meetings. Club Live offers leadership opportunities, fun chapter meeting activities, exciting Sacramento County Office of Education trainings for youth in the fall and the spring, and a chance to make a positive change in our school and community climate.

DRIVE-The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us “When it comes to motivation, there’s a gap between what science knows and what business does. Our current business operating system— which is built around external, carrot-and-stick motivators— doesn’t work and often does harm. We need an upgrade. And the science shows the way. This new approach has three essential elements: (1) Autonomy— the desire to direct our own lives; (2) Mastery— the urge to make progress and get better at something that matters; and (3) Purpose— the yearning to do what we do in the service of something larger than ourselves.” Mr. Cooper says, “Please remember to read for your own enjoyment on a regular basis.”

NEW FROZEN YOGURT A BIG HIT

“The first order sold out very fast.    The new flavors are Strawberry, Peanut Butter/Chocolate Swirl, Cookies 'n Cream, and Vanilla/Chocolate Swirl.    They sell for $2 a cup and it makes for a nice healthy Friday snack!” Terri Schmidt , Cafeteria
