You don’t have to live in the country or own a cabin in

the woods to have a family room with a country style decor. You don’t have to even participate in coun-try lifestyles like farming, fishing and hunting. You can have country decor right in the middle of the city or even in the suburbs. Let your imagination run wild in bringing the coun-try into your home. The country look is pure sim-

plicity using natural colors and textures embodying the culture of country liv-ing. There are many ways to accomplish this decorat-ing style in your home by simply placing unfinished wood furniture in the room as end and coffee tables along with oversized leath-er club chairs and couches, and carefully selected color schemes for your walls and paintings. You can build a large stone fireplace that will be the focal point in

your family room along with placing some carefully se-

lected antique pieces stra-tegically throughout the room . There are many ways to soften up a family room and make the room feel comfy, cozy, and inviting to your guests and family. A family room should be a haven for anyone who chooses to spend some time there. It is most of-ten the most used space in a home, and you want it to feel comfortable. You want the room to feel warm and relaxing. A custom-made antler table could be just the touch the room needed to play up a lodge-like interior. The walls should be painted a country style pale yellow or blue hue, providing a softer look that a bright white. The color of your walls is especially import-ant if the room’s windows have a north and south view. Adding a few choice color schemes, like blue plaid throw pillows on the couch, gives your liv

ing room or family room space a strong sense of col-or and pattern. You should select a soft carpet that is comfortable for kids to sit on, if you are able to redo the flooring, in a hue that complements the colors of your walls. If you are stuck with another type of hard-er flooring, bring in plush area rugs to place in the seating areas. Remember, large flat screen televisions and an Xbox don’t exact-ly mesh with the country style family room, so make sure you have a good, rus-tic looking entertainment center to hide them. An antique armoire is perfect, find one at an auction that has a flawed finish. You’ll end up getting it cheap be-cause no one else will want it. Paint it or distress it and add shelves for your elec-tronics to keep them hid-den. Just remember to keep in mind that Country decor is charming, pure, simple and natural. There’s no need for fuss in a country family room, just get back to basics.

Where you can get all your ad-vice on country living from

the girl who knows all about it.

A:The best way to paint your nails country I have found is to be with

lace. All you need to do is pick two col-ors, my favorite are pink and white, and then put your bottom coat down. Next after that dries take a piece of lace and hold it over you nail as you pain with the top coat. Finally finish with a nice clear polish and your set!

Q:I’m trying to think of ways to give my kitchen table a center piece

that has some southern charm. Help!

A:Well you have come to the right person! What I love doing at my

house is taking different sized ma-son jars and painting the inside a nice pastel color like a blue. Then all I do after that is let it dry and add some real or fake flowers when I'm done.

Q:How can you paint laminate wood? I’m trying to paint my

old wood coffee table a light green to give my house a new country vibe.

A:Well this is one of my most common-ly asked questions so I would be glad

to help. First you take your piece of wood and sand every part that you are planning to paint. Then when you are done wipe down the wood with a rag to get off all the dust from sanding. Next you take a prim-er that’s made for laminate, I would rec-ommend Zinsser, and paint the area and follow the directions on the can and then lastly you can paint whatever color you want to give your house a whole new look.

Q:How can I paint my nails to give them a country look?

Page 19: Wild at Heart

Q:I am a true Southern belle but I work in a structured business

environment. How can I add some southern flair to my work clothes?

A:Great question, here’s what to do! Wear lace and floral prints but

pair it with a black blazer or paint to still give it a professional look. Also you can take a dark flannel shirt and tuck it into a black skirt and add a belt!

Q: have an old pair of cowboy boots that I would like to give a new

look to. What are some ways to embel-lish them without missing them up?

A:Well there are many ways to deco-rate your boots. The first way I rec-

ommend is to embroider them with a new thread or another idea to try is taking studs or jewels to them. Also I have heard of painting your boots but with that just make sure the paint you pick works with leather.

What do you associate denim with? Majority of people will think of cowboys, the country, and small towns. For years that’s the only population who has worn denim consecutively. Females have worn denim dresses throughout the ages they would pair the dress with a pair of cowboy boots. In the 70’s denim jackets were a big fashion trend among working men. In the 80’s the trend continued but was twisted everyone wore denim jackets but with their own twist. People would add embellishments to make the jacket their own. Denim died out slowly but surely and is now coming back in 2012! Denim is the new black. Every street corner you turn someone is wearing denim whether it be a denim dress, skirt, jacket, shirt, or vest. Everyone is turning their styles into the country phenomenon. There are tons of different types of denim that you can wear; buying denim is the easy part. It becomes tricky and can become a denim disaster if you don’t know how to wear it correctly or what to pair it with.

Adding Denimto your Closet

Page 21: Wild at Heart

Totally tied! Try tying the ends of a denim shirt in a knot. This works if you are wearing shorts, a skirt or even this fall’s

Be unexpected! You can always throw a denim jacket over any-thing, but Lange and Wagman suggest pairing it with a flirty, girly outfit, like a floral sun-

Mix and match! Using a chambray shirt as your jacket is another great option for the fall. Wearing it over a cute tank and jeans is totally ccept-able. Mixing different colors of denim

Dress it down! Wear a longer jean shirt with a cute pair of black leggings, or even as a dress on a warmer day.

Find the Line Between Country and Redneck

There are two types of southern folk Country and Redneck. Some who aren’t from this background will characterize them as the same thing but they are totally different. The term country refers to southern peo-

ple who like southern things. Things that make someone country are you have to love being outside, hunting, not afraid to get dirty, drive a truck, have a pair of cowboy boots and levis, white picket fence and always have a glass of sweet tea close by. These are just some things that country people enjoy. Now people who are considered redneck are usually poor, uneducated, and basically just the trash of country living. Trying to find the line between the two is easy for most but when decorating your house, wedding, wardrobe, and your overall space some could get confused at what defines it Country or Redneck.
