comes to lodging legislation that affects its membership; such as financing, jobs
(work VISA’s) and special interests (like the ADA compliance issue regarding

HI’s Marketing Department has decided to follow
the anatomy of a franchise (new construction Red
Carpet Inn), from the beginning.
Building a new motel
Branding a new motel
When Bipin Patel decided to
tear down his existing 18-room
motel and construct a new mo-
tel on the same site in Mon-
mouth, New Jersey; there were
many considerations, especially
what brand he would ultimately
select.
Hotel owners and investors are often influenced by
friends, relatives
or business asso-
ciates. And, in
this case it was
the banker
(lender), who
’recommended’
Paul Vakharia,
HI’s Senior Re-
gional Sales Man-
ager for New Jer-
sey to Bipin Patel. Once Vakharia met with Bipin he was able to
show the prospective franchisee the value of getting
a franchise with flexibility and a fee structure that
would enable him to retain more of his profits
(always a prime con-
cern for hotel own-
ers and investors in
general). While the
cost of a new fran-
chise is certainly at
the top of the list
when shopping for a
brand, there is some-
thing else that many
franchisees may not realize initially. (see top right)
The ability to establish a personal ‘business’
relationship between a franchisee and the franchisor
is an important link
as well, for if one is
comfortable in their
overall dealings with
their business
partners, they
are more apt to
be an active par-
ticipant in working together for a more success-
ful venture. Photos show: Bipin Patel at ground
breaking; initial frame out of interior of motel; com-
pleted framing of motel, and completion of roofing.
As we continue to follow the Red Carpet Inn in Monmouth, NJ, future
Hospitality Newsletter issues will feature . . .

A Hotel.com guest who recently stayed at the Wyckoff Avenue Red Carpet Inn in Brooklyn, New York, had this to say . . . “Nous y
avons passé 3 nuits. L'hotel est tres bien situé, a la sortie du Métro, notre chambre était tres pro-pre ainsi que la salle de bain...C'est vraiment bon qualité prix! -- l faut 15 min pour se rendre au centre de Mannathan!” For those of us who don’t speak French - “We stayed there for 3 nights. The hotel is very well located at the exit of the Metro. Our room was very clean and the bathroom as well ... It's really good for the money! It takes only 15 minutes to get to the center of Manhattan!”
The Scottish Inns on the Hudson in Water-ford, NY, who joined HI’s family of inns this past April, uses the Tri-padvisor hotel review, which is featured on their personal property website (accessible through Book-RoomsNow.com) for their guest’s convenience. Here is what Dave C (who also gave the Scottish Inns five green circles), wrote on Tripadvisor, “Very Accommodating. Our group of firefighters booked most of the motel for a weekend convention and we all agreed the units were clean and comfortable. The management made every effort to insure we as a group felt welcomed during our stay and although the motel had just undergone major renovation, problems were few if any. I look forward to our next fire-fighters event in the Waterford area as we would all enjoy another stay at this motel.”
Hospitality International’s President, Jim Blood-worth, worked his way to the
top, beginning as a Reserva-tion Agent, had a stint in mar-keting, was a long-time Qual-ity Assurance Representative,
then QA Manager and became a Regional Manager, selling HI franchises.
When Jim Bloodworth joined Hospitality Interna-
tional in 1987, his goal, due to an accident that limited his walking and standing ability, was to work for about six months in HI’s Reservation Center. Bloodworth says, “I’m still here, 26 years later,” adding he was a restaurant man-ager by profession. “I believe that during my 26 years, working in different areas at HI has qualified me for my
current job as HI’s President. As you know, the hotel industry is ever evolving, and changes rapidly, and we must change to meet the stan-dards the public requires and demands. As 2012 comes to an end, I can say we have all survived, regardless of changes, and look forward to a prosperous 2013.”
