Traditional Realist America has prided itself on being a “melting pot” where diverse ethnic groups assimilated into being proud US citizens. We were all taught the rules of being an American at home and at school. If you apply yourself by working hard at your chosen occupation you can move up the socio economic ladder to middle or upper class. If you were diligent at school or work your superiors promoted you to better opportunities in the free market economy. Currently we are being told we are a “salad bowl” where you do not modify your ethic, racial, or other differences but keep them and exploit them for self- promotion. Students no longer believe they will be primarily rewarded for their accomplishments in their educational and occupational pursuits. Too many feel their uniqueness and personal suffering are caused by circumstances beyond their control, which has handicapped them. The more a person can make a case that they have been a victim caused by their journey of being born into an imperfect situation the more they can demand assistance from the government for their miserably low lot in life. continued on last page Every year during National Education Week we invite parents of our students to come into school and work with their children in their classrooms. This is a special time when the students get to show their parents what they are working on in school. Not all parents are familiar with the Montessori materials and their names. This is a chance for parents to learn the proper Montessori names for the materials their student uses everyday. Thank you to all the parents who took time from their busy day to make our visiting day a success.

Every year during National Education Week we invite parents of our students to come into school and work with their children in their classrooms.

This is a special time when the students get to show their parents what they are working on in school. Not all parents are familiar with the Montessori materials and their names. This is a chance for parents to learn the proper Montessori names for the materials their student uses everyday.

PRESCHOOL Mrs. Bermudez & Mrs. Pascalli

This week we continued our studies on pilgrims, Indians, insects, and Veteran’s Day. The students are learning lots of Patriotic and Thanksgiving songs. At the art table the students punched out red, white, and blue stars and made a hat in honor of Veteran’s Day. During math, some students are working with identifying numbers, while others are adding and subtract ing numbers. Congratulations to Molly and Lillian for writing 1 to 100. Congratulations to Aria for completing her mixed addition and sub t rac t ion book and Mol ly fo r completing her addition book. In language, some students are working with sounds and blending sounds, while others are working with short vowels, blends, reading sentences, rhyming words, and penmanship. In Sensorial the students had a lesson on the geometric solids and we added cards to the Brown Stair Equipment. We would like to thank all of the parents that came to our classroom this week. The students felt proud and had lots of fun showing their parents how much they have learned. Also, thank you for attending our first Veteran’s song fest. Last week we had various students participate in our Biography Fair. We would like to congratulate them for an amazing job. Have a great weekend!

PRIMARY Mrs. Youse & Mrs. Bulso

This week we added some new fall work to our shelves. Since November is here and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, we have incorporated Thanksgiving related material including parts of a turkey as well as two and three part matching of Thanksgiving themed images (pilgrims, Indians, ships, turkey) with words and statements that describe the pictures.

In language, the students copied a poem about veterans in honor of Veteran’s Day. They also wrote a short description of one of our sensorial materials, the Red Knobless Cylinders. This activity not only allowed the children to practice their writing, it also helped them to learn more

about the material itself which helps them to better understand its purpose. The students were even able to practice their coloring and cutting skills as well as they created an image of the red cylinders to accompany their writing. Congratulations to Cayden for memorizing the addition facts and moving on to subtraction.

In science, the students learned more about the human body. We had lessons on the human skeleton as well as the different body organs. The students reviewed the names of the different bones and were able to see how they fit together with the help of the large skeleton puzzle. We also used another puzzle that contained images of a skeleton as well as the different muscles organs and even veins, giving the students a better idea of what the human body looks like on the inside. In addition to the human body we learned more about the different earth landforms.

Thank you to all the parents who came to join us for National Education Week. The students were very excited to have visitors and to be able to demonstrate what they are learning in the classroom. We would also like to thank everyone for coming out to celebrate Veterans Day with us and a very special thank you to our veterans. The students worked hard at practicing their patriotic songs to honor those who have served our country so we hope that you enjoyed the performance.

LOWER ELEMENTARY Ms. Urbanek, Miss Doman, & Mr. Garrand

We would like to thank all the parents who joined us for National Education week.

We would also like to thank everyone who joined us on Friday for our Veterans Event.

Congratulations to Antonio for mastering his subtraction facts. Congratulations to Patrick B. and Christian for having a perfect reading sheet last week.

This week in spelling we went over the words verbally, drew pictures, did a word search, and wrote them in ABC order.

In math the students did geometry cards, applications, booklets, and calendars.

In language they worked from the tower.

The students continue to finish continents and then work on states in geography. They will continue to add states every

week. We ask that the students leave their states in the prongs of their homework folder, this will avoid having the student rewrite all the states again.

In history the students are working on the California, Great Plains, and Southwest regions in Native American. Last week we made pumpkin muffins the recipe is below. We would like to thank everyone for donating the ingredients.

In science the students will continue to complete the bird, fish, mammal part I and II, reptile, and amphibian external.

Mrs. Gutierrez, Mrs. Bianco & Mrs. Hughes

On Friday, the school honored veterans with a medley of patriotic songs. Our students worked on banners and posters to demonstrate their appreciation of our veterans’ dedication to our country.

Fourth graders had a busy week returning to work following the Biography Fair, entertaining parents for National Education Week, and creating a mural for the Veterans Songfest. They started their Southwest states projects. Like their Southeastern state project, they received a rubric that they follow to make sure that all requirements are met.

This week in language the fifth grade students learned about pronoun usage and adjectives. The students also had fun picking details out from a picture, finding a main idea, and writing a short paragraph using those details.  The students found the stories to be creative and interesting.

Sixth graders this week learned to identify adjectives, predicate adjectives, and adverbs in a sentence. They also began their research and worked on pin maps of their chosen countries from North and Central America. In physical science, they are learning about the elements in the periodic table.

JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH Mrs. Parks, Mrs. Letourneau, & Mrs.Ward

Today we celebrated Veterans Day by singing a medley of songs to our veterans. Zach Peters started us off by reading a prayer and saying the Pledge of Allegiance. After we sang the songs the veterans had refreshments outside. It was a great celebration to honor the people who gave us the freedoms that we experience in our country today.

The 8th grade Life Science class is learning about the 8 classification groups and the 6 kingdoms. We need to organize the living things around us into categories, or classify them. Classification is the arrangement of organisms into orderly groups based on their similarities. For hundreds of years, all living things were classified as either plants or animals. These two kingdoms, Plantae and Animalia, worked just fine until millions more organisms were discovered. Now there are 6 kingdoms. The students walked the school grounds to observe and describe each of these kingdoms.

Progress reports will be sent out next Friday. Your student will only get a progress report if they have an average of 69% or less in a subject.

The 9th grade did a lab in Physical Science. In this lab, they constructed several different ways to try and keep an egg from breaking from a high distance.

PRE-K & PRIMARY AFTERSCHOOL

Miss Doman

This week in afterschool we played cartoon tag and hello neighbor on the playground. We also drew and played with chalk. Inside we made fall pictures and colored. We also enjoyed practicing and singing our Veterans Day songs!

AFTERSCHOOL Ms. Bennett

On the playground this week the students participated in games such as hide and seek, kickball, freeplay, gaga ball, and steal the bacon.

During our indoor time the students worked on making keepsakes for all the veterans who came to visit for the song fest. The students also used the various activities from the shelves.

In Mind Lab, the students participated in games such as Chess, Cranium, Monopoly, and Upwords. These activities help the students to use their critical thinking skills.

We discussed the importance of being kind to one another during circle time.

The 8th grade Life Science class walked the school grounds to collect species for their kingdom.

Zaiden celebrates his birthday with a birthday walk.
