Don’t forget the mass market!
• While the number of smartphones as a proportion of mobile phones is set to increase, from 23% of all mobile phone shipments in 2011 to 37% in 2016,
• Ovum still expects non-smartphones to number 2.3 billion in 2016
• JavaME is the most widespread mobile application runtime on mobile phones (as reflected by its position on Figure 1). – According to Oracle, the company which now maintains
the Java technology, there are currently 3 billion mobile phones that currently support JavaME, and 1 billion of these are from Nokia alone.
