Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

PDHPE teaches students:

about their personal growth, development, health, well-being

and physical activity.

factors of a healthy lifestyle such as nutrition, health, safety,

development and physical activity.

how to make positive decisions in their future and lead healthy,

happy and active lifestyles.

knowledge, skills and values associated with well-being.

PDHPE is IMPORTANT!...

Personal DevelopmentIn terms of Personal Development, the PDHPE KLA

is important as it teaches students about:

Interpersonal relationships

Growth and development(Board of studies, 2007).

The PDHPE KLA, particularly stands to do with

personal development teach children about

themselves and the -normal- changes their

bodies and minds go through.

Creates a safe space to learn about aspects of

development, growth, bodily changes, life choices

and relationships.

HealthThe PDHPE KLA also teaches students about the different

aspects of their health.

Learn aspects of a healthy lifestyle - Personal health choices (Board of Studies, 2007).

Physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual health

(holistic).

Good for psychological/mental health as physical activity can

boost a child’s self-esteem and happiness.

Live a safe lifestyle and be aware of dangers and hazards

within the environment which may hinder well-being.

Gain values and knowledge to avoid negative choices such as

substance abuse or sedentary lifestyle.

Physical Education Allows children to build essential life skills including;

Communicating, Interacting, Decision-making, Moving

and problem-solving (Board of Studies, 2007).

Children learn about the benefits of physical activity

and how to incorporate it into their daily lives.

Physical Education in primary school includes aspects such as

games and sports, dance and gymnastics (Board of studies, 2007).
