WHYPDHPE?

‘Encourages an understanding and value of self and others’

students learn to value themselves through understanding and making conscious decisions about their own health and lifestyleThrough group activities and games that require students to work together they begin to understand each other and respect each others differences.

PROMOTES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

• The PE aspect of PDHPE gives students an array of fun games that keep them physically active

• Students are able to learn about the importance of an active lifestyle through studying and understanding the consequences of a lifestyle with limited physical activity

• ‘Students should be physically active every day in as many ways as they can’ (Board Of Studies, 2013)

‘Teaches students about personal health choices’

‘An understanding of health issues empowers students to make appropriate decisions and commit to adopting sound community values’ (Board of Studies, 2013)IE. Through studying nutrition students can make informed decisions on their own eating habits to benefit their health

TEACHES SKILLS THATBENEFIT MOVEMENT AND HEALTH

• ‘The skills of effective communication, interaction, decision making and problem solving and moving with efficiency and confidence empower students to take action leading to better health, improved performance and enhanced self-esteem’ (Board of Studies, 2013)

• With the teaching of specific skills for each stage (EG. Striking with two hands for Stage 1) students learn how to be more efficient within an array of different physical activities allowing them to benefit more from an active lifestyle

• Teaches students different life skills (EG. Effectively using listening skills for Stage 3) allowing them to benefit from their relationships with others and with themselves
