The project coordinators at RW Manufacturing Co. can assist you throughout product development.

Many companies turn to us to produce their products. This allows us to focus on producing their lines

while they can focus on other aspects of their business. Our designers and jewelers are experienced at

every stage of the process and can create the original design, model and mold necessary to getting your

design into production.

Computer aided design (CAD) is the use of computer technology which can design two-dimensional

drawings or three-dimensional models. CAD software has built in tools that help to streamline the de-

signing process and can produce curves, solids or surfaces as well as figures. The huge advantage that

you have with CAD is that you can rotate and view the design from any angle and make any necessary

changes to it. This software is used by architects, engineers, drafters, artists and others to create preci-

sion drawings, technical illustrations and virtual models.

At RW Manufacturing Co. our designers use CAD with a majority of the projects that come into our

facility. By creating a CAD file our designers have a virtual playground at their fingertips and can create

almost anything that comes to the imagination. We take all of our “old world” experience and combine it

with state of the art technology to give you creations that will simply take your breath away.

Making fine custom jewelry is a specialty at RW

Manufacturing Co. We have the award-winning

talent, knowledge and experience to make your

dreams a reality. We have created everything

from a simple wedding band to a very complex

one-of-a-kind designer master piece .

Custom design is a profit area often neglected by

some jewelers. We have found that there is a

substantial market for custom work especially for

engagement rings, fitted wedding rings, remounts

or making new custom creations from jewelry

that is broken or discarded.

Typically, clients will bring us pictures or send us

sketches of what they would like to have us make

for them. We then provide them with a CAD

rendering and then proceed to have the wax

milled or grown depending upon what is desired.

Once approved by the client, the wax can be cast

in silver, gold, platinum or palladium. Once in

metal, the custom piece is ready for setting and

finishing by one of our many talented jewelers.

The result is a stunning, one-of-a-kind creation

that will add to your prestige and one that your

customer will enjoy for years to come.

Let us show you how custom work can increase

your profits. Contact us for further information.

After you have your finished CAD file we can then have your design milled or grown out of

wax. RW Manufacturing Co. uses specialized equipment which takes the formatted informa-

tion from the CAD file and allows it to be processed on an automated mill or grower. After

the finished wax is cleaned and inspected it is finally ready for casting or molding. We have

found this equipment to be indispensable which allows us to maximize our production by

having a completely finished wax produced in a few hours when compared to a few days or

even weeks when carved by hand. We even have the capability to run multiple files overnight

and on the weekends which saves many hours in labor and increases productivity.

PLATINUM

Platinum is becoming the metal of choice in fine

jewelry. RW Manufacturing Co. uses Platinum

Ruthenium and Platinum Iridium for platinum

casting. From cutting edge to traditional, each

of these offers an end result that can satisfy your

needs. These platinum alloys have proven to be

the finest platinum product on the market yield-

ing improved castings and a harder more dura-

ble finish. These metals give the consumer the

look they want, the jeweler an easier working

metal and the retailer a more durable product.

GOLD

Gold is still the best seller and RW Manufactur-

ing Co. gives you plenty of choices. Choose

from yellow, white, rose or green in 10k, 14k or

18k. You may also request different karats and

other colors if you’d like. Contact us if this is

something that you would like us to provide and

rest assured that our 30+ years of experience

will show in the results.

SILVER

Silver has really become quite popular due to the

price of the current metal market. We use tradi-

tional sterling silver and also offer tarnish resis-

tant silver metals as well. The use of karat gold

and sterling silver has become a popular fashion

statement today let us combine these metals for

you and your customers! RW Manufacturing

Co. can cast and assemble any combinations of

metals all with our renowned quality.

PALLADIUM

Palladium has been used since the late 1930’s to

create fine jewelry. Like platinum, silver and

gold it is a great jewelry metal. Palladium looks

very similar to platinum, but weighs and costs

much less. Because of its naturally white prop-

erties, it stays white and doesn’t require rhodium

plating like white gold. Palladium is durable,

and as time goes on, it seems that more of our

clients desire it—especially when platinum or

gold is not an option.

BRONZE/BRASS

RW Manufacturing Co. also casts in bronze and

brass. Whether you need samples for your

product line or models for molds, we can ac-

commodate you.

Quality molds and models are absolutely crucial

in producing a flawless wax that can be accu-

rately reproduced time and time again.

If a mold does not yield a quality wax, it’s going

to be a very long day for the jeweler working on

the piece. We use traditional vulcanized rubber,

cold pour and state of the art HD molds. Most

of our molds utilize a crosscut “choppy waters”

style opening which provides a good seal and

helps to facilitate an easy extraction of the wax.

Put our experts to work for you and see why so

many depend on RW Manufacturing Co. in mak-

ing their master molds and models.

Don’t want to utilize CAD? Our talented staff

can still carve waxes to your specifications by

hand. Due to time constraints in today’s busy

world we work primarily with CAD to produce

our waxes. If your piece needs that “old world”

feel, we also have decades of experience and

would be more than happy to take the time to

make that special piece at your request.

Remember that the quality of the finished prod-

uct is only as good as the wax model. Trust RW

Manufacturing Co. to give you the quality wax

carvings that you need.

When it comes to jewelry manufacturing; the process of successfully producing a wax model

from a rubber mold has always had its challenges. Incomplete injections, breakouts, shrinkage

issues and irregular surfaces are common issues that affect the jeweler and are another factor

in the loss of productivity.

These issues have led to the invention of HD polymer, a modern marvel that replaces tradi-

tional injection wax as a model material for high-end and intricately made designs. With HD

you gain incredible detail with virtually little to no shrinkage that allows you to create the lat-

est design and pattern-making technologies that would have been impossible to do in the

past! Not only does HD save you time, it also saves you money because it takes less time to

produce and weighs less than a similar casting made in the traditional manner. This means

more profit for you.

ESTIMATES

Estimates are usually provided within 5 business

days after they are received. This is to ensure a

thorough examination of your watch so that we

can make the appropriate recommendations.

Once our watch technicians have completely

evaluated your watch, we will contact you within

24 hours. Options are also supplied with the esti-

mate when additional work is necessary beyond

your original request.

There is a small processing fee for all timepieces

coming into our shop for repairs. This is part of

our evaluation process which will be waived when

we get the approval to work on a watch. Me-

chanical watches will cost $20 and Quartz

(battery) watches will cost $5 to diagnose for re-

pair if no work is authorized.

TURNAROUND

Our Battery Service Package is recommended for

quartz watches that need a new battery and takes

about 3 business days. Turn around time for

standard repairs are usually 4 - 6 weeks; this can

be longer depending on current work load, and

material availability. Antique and Vintage time-

pieces may take 6 – 8 weeks or longer, due to lim-

ited parts and sometimes require fabrication de-

pending on the nature of restoration required.

WARRANTY

All watches that we service carry a full one year

warranty on all parts and craftsmanship pertaining

to the original repair. All lab tested watches that

have had their seals compromised due to tamper-

ing will not be covered under our warranty. Parts

subject to normal wear such as Case Exteriors,

Spring Bars, Crystals, Bracelets, Straps, Clasps,

Buckles and Crowns are not covered under war-

ranty; nor is damage as a result of abuse or acci-

dent. We will also not guarantee water resistance

on vintage or older watches that are not water

resistant by design or watches that have had their

crown left open due to misuse.

SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE

RW Manufacturing Co. suggests that watches be

cleaned, oiled & serviced every three to five years

to ensure that the components are properly lubri-

cated and that the mechanism is free from mois-

ture and debris. When a watch begins to run ir-

regularly (gaining time, losing time, skipping or

stopping) it is a sign that the watch needs to be

serviced by a professional watchmaker.

As the timepiece gets older, the gears and wheels

of a mechanical watch will begin to dry having

lost their protective lubricating oils. Older water

resistant watches are also in jeopardy due to their

seals and gaskets becoming dried or worn out.

This allows moisture and debris to enter the case

which could cause damage to the movement and

other parts inside.

When a Quartz watch skips or stops, it is usually

caused by a low or dead battery. However,

quartz watches also have wheels, gears and some-

times gaskets if they are water resistant, which

sometimes need replacing as well. This is why

we don’t recommend battery swaps. Our techni-

cians here at RW Manufacturing Co. do a com-

plete inspection of your watch to make sure eve-

rything is in perfect running order.

Timepiece Classification by Age:

Antique - Watches 100 years or older

Vintage - Watches 30 years to 100 years old

Modern - Watches less than 30 years old

WATER RESISTANCE

We do not recommend taking any antique or vin-

tage watch near water of any kind. For modern

watches that are water resistant by design, we use

testing equipment in our lab to ensure reliability

to the pressure to which the watch is rated for.

RW Manufacturing Co. recommends that all wa-

ter resistant watches are checked yearly to ensure

that they are properly sealed before exposing

them to water.

Wa t c h S e r v i c e & C a r e

TYPES OF MOVEMENTS

Manual Wind:

This type of mechanical watch has a mainspring

that is wound with a winding-crown. Usually this

is done daily and if possible at the same time to

help make it routine. Wind crown until crown

becomes slightly tighter, do not engage in force

winding which can damage the movement due to

overzealous winding.

Automatic or Self Winding:

An automatic watch is a type of mechanical

movement that harnesses the energy produced by

motion to wind the spring. This movement fea-

tures an oscillating weight or rotor that spins

when the watch is in motion, as when the wearer

moves their arm. The mechanism transfers the

energy from the spinning rotor to the main spring

of the winding system. Automatic watches do

have varying power reserves and will stop running

if they are left still. This can be remedied by plac-

ing it in a watch winder which will keep the time

piece running and alleviate having to reset the

time.

Quartz:

This watch has a battery that works in combina-

tion with a quartz crystal. The battery passes an

electric current through the crystal to keep it os-

cillating at over 32,000 vibrations per second

which then drives a step motor that moves the

watch hands at a constant rate to keep highly ac-

curate time.

Kinetic:

This type of watch harnesses the power of the

human body in motion to keep it running in

much the same way an automatic or self winding

movement does. Where it differs is in the fact

that a kinetic movement can go into suspended

animation when it is inactive after 24 hours and Disassembly of a mechanical movement

Disassembly of a quartz movement

Page 19: Wholesale Catalog Updated 10-2012 (1)

[email protected] www.rwmfg.com 19

Wa t c h S e r v i c e & C a r e

is inactive after 24 hours and can automatically

reset itself to the correct time and date when it is

activated by a sudden and vigorous movement. A

kinetic has this ability because it houses a storage

capacitor that collects energy generated during

active wear and can correctly reset itself even if it

has been dormant for up to 4 years! Even with

the kinetic movement being so technologically

advanced, these watches will still need to be ser-

viced every 5-10 years due to their storage capaci-

tor wearing out.

Eco- Drive:

These movements are powered by virtually any

visible light source. Light passes through the

crystal and specially made dial until it hits the

amorphous silicon solar cell. As the protons in

the light hit the surface of the solar cell, electrons

are then released which are then channeled into a

lithium ion battery that acts as a storage cell. An

eco-driven watch can be fully charged in a few

hours and run with no additional charge from 180

days to up to 4 years! Keep in mind that this ap-

plies with eco-drive movements as well. Eventu-

ally they will still need to be serviced from time to

time and have their storage cells replaced.

TYPES OF DAMAGE

Shock:

All watches are precise measuring instruments

and must be taken care of properly and with re-

spect. Avoid dropping the watch or subjecting it

to undue shocks. We do not recommend time-

pieces to be worn while participating in high im-

pact activities.

Water / Debris:

Any dirt or moisture that finds its way into the

watch case can cause some serious havoc if it is

not serviced immediately. Both of these items left

unattended can stain dials or rust and seize move-

ments.

Magnetism:

Very strong magnetism may affect mechanical

watches, causing them to run too fast, too slow or

even stop altogether. When a watch is affected by

magnetism, it remains in the watch long after it

has been removed from the source of magnetism.

The only way to fix it is to have the watch demag-

netized without delay by a skilled professional.

TYPES OF CRYSTALS

Due to the construction of the case, watches that

originally came with plastic crystals can’t be retro-

fitted with modern sapphire crystals. If we come

into a situation that calls for a specific type of

crystal that can no longer be found we will let you

know.

Completed Watch

D e s i g n - a - W a t c h P r o g r a m

After much collaboration and by utilizing state-of-the-

art equipment, RW Manufacturing Co. is pleased to

announce that we have the technology to design and

build your very own watch. You submit your designs

and we do the rest! You can even request to make

your watch water resistant or have it covered in dia-

monds if you would like.

After we have gathered all of the information on your

proposed watch, we enter our Research and Develop-

ment phase. This phase is crucial so that we can proc-

ess all of your information, lay down the ground work

and come up with a map to guide us throughout pro-

duction.

Next we make a simple sketch and then have it mod-

eled into a 3 dimensional Computer Aided Design

(CAD) rendering. After the CAD is approved it can

either be put onto an automated wax milling machine

(which carves or grows the wax into a 3 dimensional

form) or it can be milled on a CNC lathe and vertical

mill (which allows us to cut it out of a solid billet of

virtually any metal.) If it was milled in wax then it

would get molded using our high definition (HD)

molding equipment and then cast into metal.

When all of the parts are successfully cast or milled

they are measured for size and accuracy, prepared for

semi final finishing and are ready for assembly.

Another feature that we offer is the ability to design

your own watch dial. The dial is what gives every

watch its own distinctive look. With an endless assort-

ment of possibilities we can have your dial made using

Pad printing equipment, have them struck with a

stamping machine so that they have a coin like relief

or give them an acid etched finish that will give you a

customized one of a kind dial.

After all of the parts are made, they are assembled

under the careful direction of our Head Watchmaker

who ensures that everything is fitted properly and is in

perfect working order. Afterwards your watch is

tested for water resistance, observed for 24 hours to

ensure proper function and inspected by our QC de-

partment before it is ready to leave our facility.
