Student Led Conferences Hopefully families have booked a time for student led conferences by signing up to the Parent Portal on our school management system, Sentral. A yellow note went home outlining how to do this. If you need assistance, please contact the school. So far there has been conferences booked for approximately 50% of students. Teachers want to see all parents for student led conferences and it is a fantastic way to celebrate your child’s successes from the first half of the year. Your child will be preparing a presentation for you at this event, so we strongly encourage parents to make the effort to attend. Online bookings close Thursday 21 st June 5.00pm. Please note: Students are only required at school on this day for their allocated student led conference. 2019 Enrolments As promoted at our information sessions last week, parents with Prep students for 2019 have until Friday 29 th June to return enrolment forms to schools. We encourage parents who are yet to collect a 2019 enrolment form to access an enrolment pack from the office as soon as possible. This includes younger siblings of students already attending White Hills PS. This is particularly important now that the school has an enrolment ceiling. We have informed families who reside outside our neighbourhood zone, who have submitted an interim enrolment form, that they will be contacted in the first week of August to let them know if there is a vacancy for 2019. Getting Ready for School Nights Our popular ‘Getting Ready for School’ Nights will be held on Tuesday, 7 th August (Math and Social) and Tuesday, 14 th August (English). These nights will assist parents in preparing their children who start school next year. Sessions are from 5:30pm-6:30pm in the Grade 6 rooms with childcare available both nights. These sessions are available to any parents who have a child beginning prep next year, whether you are in the neighbourhood zone or not. Resilience For children, ‘resilience can be defined as the capacity to spring back, rebound and successfully adapt in the face of adversity and develop social competence despite exposure to severe distress.‘(Rivkin & Hoopman) Resilient children are socially competent, can solve problems have a sense of autonomy and independence, and a sense of purpose and future. As a consequence, these children have an increased capacity to learn. The major determinant of whether a child becomes resilient or not is the degree to which he or she experiences certain protective factors. Research associates a clear pattern of characteristics within family, school or community that foster resilience in children. These characteristics or ‘protective factors’ appear to alter or even reverse negative outcomes and enable individuals to circumvent life stresses. (B.Benard) Parents can help foster these resilient qualities by providing the necessary protective factors of: 1. Caring and supportive relationships 2. having high but realistic expectations of their children 3. and providing opportunities for young people to participate and be involved in the family. REPEAT NOTICES

Chinese Immersion Program 2018

We have now had six families who have expressed an interest to host a Chinese student this year. This means we can host 2 boys

and 2 girls at this stage. We are still seeking additional families who might be interested in this experience in October. The students

usually arrive in week 2 of Term 4 and leave in the first week of December.

I am seeking expressions of interest from families of children in Grades 3-6 (can be other grades also) to host a Chinese student for

four or eight weeks during their visit. The Chinese students are 10-12 years old and are in Grade 5. (The Chinese school year begins

in September)

If you are interested, please complete the slip at the end of the newsletter and return it to school or reply by email to

[email protected]

If you would like more information or would like to speak with a family who hosted last year, please feel free to contact me.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support you here at WHPS.

Andrew Schaeche,

Principal

PFG News Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th July at approximately 9.05am in the staffroom.

All newcomers are welcome to attend any meeting! You may bring along younger siblings to our meetings as well. Come and

have morning tea with us, a chat and a laugh, and find out what we do around the school.

End of Term Breaky

The end of term breaky will be held at ‘The Loaded Plate’ on Friday 29th June (the last day of term) at approximately 9:30am.

We welcome all parents and friends.

Cadbury Chocolate Fundraiser

On Wednesday 20th June, our Cadbury Fundraiser boxes will be distributed to the eldest child in each family. Each box

contains chocolates to the value of $50.00. They are very easy to sell – take them to netball, football, soccer, your workplace,

or sell them to neighbours, family and friends.

All money and unsold chocolates MUST be returned to school by 4.00pm, Friday 27th July, or payment in full via QKR

or EFTPOS at the office.

Once your first box is paid for, an additional box can be collected from the office. Extra boxes can be purchased before and

after the due date.

If you would not like to receive a box for this fundraiser, please contact the school office well before Wednesday 20 th June -

delivery day.

Thank you for your support. All money raised will go toward the continuing school building and grounds upgrade.

Thankyou from P & F Group

quickly. Learning portfolios will soon be going home.

Student led conference

Please make sure that you make an appointment on Sentral for Student

Led conference day (26/6). If you need help, please see your classroom

teacher.

Multi-Age Day

We had a great day with our STEM focused day. Programming mice, ozo

bots, teddy drop, foldable flight and magic boats. Check out some of the

photos on school dojo too!

Senior School News Grade 5 News Inquiry Project

You will have noticed your child working on their project which was a homework requirement for the last couple of weeks. Research

time is also being given during class time. The Inquiry is due on the 25th June so hopefully your child has organised their time well

to complete 6 tasks.

Sovereign Hill

The excursion is only a week away but we still have a few signed permission forms that need to be returned. This excursion is always

a great one. We get an insight into life in the gold rush days and many of us will even ‘strike it rich’.

Student Led Conference

Don’t forget to book on line for the time that suits you. A note went home with information on how to do this.

Lit. Circles.

It is expected that your child completes their weekly Lit. Circle reading so that they are prepared for the weekly sessions.
