Crossing Plumridge Street at the Bike Path The City Of Greater Bendigo received a call from a concerned resident about children and parents crossing Plumridge St on the
Linear Trail (Bike Trail) and not giving way to vehicles.
The road hump is not a zebra crossing. Pedestrians and bicycles are required to give way to all vehicles. There are even give way
signs on the linear path to reinforce this.
The safest location to cross is at the supervised school crossing.
Whilst the school is conducting a ‘Safety Day’ including a session on traffic safety on 8th November, I would like to remind parents
to please abide by the above rules to ensure the safety of everyone.
Dragon Colouring Competition Win $250 for your school!
Bendigo Northern District Community Enterprise is proudly partnering with the 3 other community
enterprises to donate $20,000 to support the Dai Gum Loong Dragon project.
To complement our support of this important cultural project the enterprise is coordinating a Dragon
Colouring Competition with the primary schools in the northern corridor.
Students from White Hills, Holy Rosary, Epsom, Huntly and Goornong primary schools are encouraged
to enter the competition by completing the official colouring sheet, available from your class
teacher/school office.
The school with the highest number of completed colouring sheet entries as a percentage of the school’s
enrolment returned to the White Hills branch of Bendigo Bank will be the winner. The school will win:
$250 for their school
a copy of the publication “Loong – Bendigo’s Golden Dragon’ by Leigh McKinnon
a school visit/performance by a Lion Dragon courtesy of the Bendigo Dragon Team.

Mayor Welcomes our Chinese
Visitors to Bendigo
Last Friday the Mayor, Margaret O’Rourke
hosted an official welcome ceremony for
the 42 Chinese students and 6 teachers from
Suzhou Industrial Park. Following the
formality, we enjoyed a morning tea on the
lawns.
Please let us know if there is anything further that we can do to support you here at WHPS.

Parents & Friends (P&F) Group News Next Meeting
Our next meeting is Wednesday 8th November in the staff room after drop off. All newcomers
are welcome to attend and enjoy a cuppa with us.
P&F Group Visit to Cadbury Factory For the first time, WHPS P & F Group members were lucky to receive an invitation to visit the
Cadbury retail shop last Thursday. The Cadbury factory is in Ringwood, in the outer eastern suburbs
of Melbourne. Some lucky P & F Group members carpooled to Ringwood on a rainy day last week
after dropping off children at school. We spent just under an hour at Cadbury, grabbing lots of
bargains for ourselves and buying for others who couldn't make it. Although it was a day spent
mostly in the car, we had plenty to talk about and quite a few laughs. Unfortunately there was no
time to visit anything else, as we had to be back before the bell at the end of the day. It was a very enjoyable day out, had by
all. Hopefully we get to go again next year! We are always looking for new members! So if you are the slightest bit interested,
please consider sitting in on our meetings, or let one of our friendly P & F Group members or school office staff know, if you would
like to help with up and coming events. We are a friendly dynamic group of helpers, where some can offer a lot of time, and some
only a little bit - but it all helps no matter how much time you can give. Being a part of Parents & Friends Group helps you to know
more about our school, how it operates, and its friendly community. You are kept up to date with what is happening, meet other
parents/grandparents from your school community, and you can enjoy having break-up breakies at the end of every term, with lots
of laughs and yummy food. You are most welcome to bring younger siblings to our meetings or breakies, as we all have children
and understand. Join us any time, or even next year in Term 1, where we will have a busy start to 2018. We are looking forward to
meeting some new members soon!
Thank you for all of your continued support

riding along with activities including mini golf, damper making, camp fire, and a
night walk. Our parent helpers Cam, Scott, Tash, Kate and Eleanor were fantastic.
Without these volunteers it’s not possible to run the camp. Thanks, the students
really enjoyed your efforts and enthusiasm! To see some samples of students
writing, comic making and pictures of the camp, visit our section of the school
website.

Students learnt a range of ideas to become more sustainable during our excursion.
I wonder if they have brought any ideas home for you to try?
