Hi everyone, School’s ANZAC Day commemoration On Friday, the school held its ANZAC Day ceremony. The student leaders admirably managed proceedings and we had a special guest from the Bendigo RSL, Sergeant Glenn Ludeman attend. Glenn joined the Australian Army 30 years ago and has served in Bougainville Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Timor Leste, and multiple tours of Afghanistan. Glenn spoke about the true meaning of the word ANZAC and was very complementary of the school’s service. It was wonderful to see many parents and community members in attendance. I have included a few more photos on Page 2 of today’s newsletter. Education Week: 24 28 May The school will be conducting an Open Day and Information sessions at White Hills Primary School during Education Week. Open Day: Tuesday 25 th May from 9:00-11:00am. This is an opportunity for parents, grandparents and friends to visit their child’s class. Multi-aged Day: Friday 28 th May On this day the school will be holding a Health & Fitness multi-age day to commemorate the upcoming Tokyo Olympics (mixed age groups participating in a variety of activities focussed on wellbeing, health and fitness). 2022 Foundation (Prep) Information Sessions will be held on Tuesday 25 th May 9:30-10:15am & 6.00 -6.45pm These information sessions are intended for 2022 Prep parents interested in learning more about White Hills Primary School. Uniform Reminder As the weather gets a little chillier, it is pertinent to remind families that it is acceptable to wear a jacket to and from school to stay warm but once school starts, they must have a school jumper. This ensures they can keep warm during breaks and outdoor activities such as physical education while at school, as they are not able to wear their jackets (unless it is a school uniform item) during school hours. We will be stocking/trialling some school beanies in about a month, more information to come on cost. Next year, school council will be outsourcing school uniform as our long time uniform parent volunteer Kim Engi ’s youngest child is completing Grade 6. Kim and I are currently meeting with local companies to source the best quality uniform items at the lowest price for our school community. ANZAC Day Service

The Fathering Project

On Monday evening, Rodney Eade launched the school’s Fathering Project

and we had approximately 40 dads/brothers/grandfathers/father figures in

attendance. Thanks to those dads/father figures who were able to attend

and hopefully they learned something from the evening. Rod proposed

some questions for discussion such as ‘what are the challenges of being a

father?’ and ‘what do your kids want from you as a dad?’ My biggest ‘take

away’ was the ‘Dad’s Dates’ idea. The intent of this is for dads to organise

to do something special 1:1 with each child. Ask your kids what they would

like and give them a choice. Ideas include going to the movies, go for a

bike ride, go swimming, have an ice-cream at the lake, play a board game,

go fishing. The options are endless and your kids will have plenty of ideas!

Thanks again to our Group Leaders for their support and input, Brad

Robinson, Ross Marsolino, Ben Reynolds and David Treloar. Thanks to

Brad and McCulloch’s Engineering for their sponsorship and purchase of

the pizzas and to Ben and IGA for the drinks.

It seems my messaging was misleading so apologies to the dads who

thought the night was kids as well.

Our dads Group Leaders are currently organising the next event as detailed

below, we hope to see many in attendance.

Event 2- Dads and Kids- Monday 24th May- 5.30-7.00pm in the

PE shed: Paper plane competition with the dads/father figures and kids.

Start practising to make your best plane - prizes given in a variety of

categories.

Eade who presented the session at the Fathering

Project launch event on Monday night.

REPEAT NOTICES Promoting Our School

We have found that the best way to promote our school to new families is through you, our parents. If you know anyone moving into

our area, has a child attending your child’s pre-school or who has a Prep child for next year and has not chosen a school, talk to them

about our school and please invite them to attend an information session (listed in this addition). Perhaps you could come with them

to help them feel more comfortable. Remember that you, our parents, are the best ambassadors for our school.

Brain Food

It is important for children to keep up their energy levels and for their bodies to be fully hydrated, for

optimal learning. ‘Brain Food’ is food that is eaten in the classroom as an addition to the main meals

and snacks eaten at recess and lunchtime. Students are encouraged to bring bite size pieces of fresh

vegetables and/or fruit to nibble.

It would be preferable to send ‘Brain Food’ for your child in small reusable containers – nothing too

sticky or messy.

For the junior grades (Prep-Grade 2) it is helpful if food is pre-cut ready for eating. Please do not include processed foods or nuts.

Acceptable ‘Brain Foods’ include:

• Fresh fruit and vegetables

• Dried fruit (eg apricots, prunes, raisins and sultanas)

Other healthy lunchbox items such as rice cakes, dips, yoghurt, cheese, boiled eggs and popcorn can be eaten during recess and

Lunch breaks.

Please let us know if there’s anything further that we can do to support you here at WHPS.

Principal

Mother’s Day/Special Person’s Day Stall Next Friday the 7th of May is our Mother’s Day stall, where each student will be able to purchase 1 gift

for their Mum/special person for $2.00. Please don’t forget for your child/ren to bring along $2.00 and

a bag to put their gift in, on this day, so they can purchase a gift, and to bring it home safely.

Mother’s Day/Special Person’s Day Stall Donations We urgently require more gifts to the value around $2.00 for our stall. Donations are due this

Monday 3rd May – which gives PFG members time to wrap and sort the gifts for Friday’s stall. Please

look out for gifts like: gardening items; cooking utensils ; chocolates; plants; craft items; cups; lollies;

nick-nacks, socks etc. All gifts must be new, and please donate 1 gift per child who attends WHPS

from your family – to allow enough gifts for every student. Please drop your donations into the school

office. Half of the money made from this stall will go to the ‘Breast Cancer Association’, and the other

half will go to a refurbishment of seating and landscaping around the ‘Hat Tree’ at our school. Many

thanks for your support.

Our Next Meeting Or next meeting will be Monday 17th May, in the staffroom, which is the older wooden portable near the toilets and basketball

courts, along the creek side. We will be there from 9:05 for a 9:15 start time.

We welcome any newcomers throughout the year - and younger siblings are welcome as well. We will ask you to sign in when you

attend. Come and have a cup of coffee or tea, and meet our little group to see what we are about.

Thankyou from all PFG members
