Where to find MacGREGOR

By harmonising the essential cargo flow functions of access,

stowage, care and handling, MacGREGOR offers integrated solu-

tions which optimise and enhance the functionality of your RoRo

vessel. To achieve this, our sales managers and technical teams

work closely with shipowners, shipyards and consultants on

issues relating to cargo flow.

At the basic design stage, we offer preliminary studies and

engineering services before the vessel’s design is finalised.

RoRo equipment is then offered as an integrated solution

based on cargo type, space limitations, shipping routes and

logistic factors.

MacGREGOR is a global company with facilities near shipyards

and ports worldwide. Once the vessel is in service, MacGREGOR

endeavours to provide lifetime support in the form of maintenance

and service solutions that ensure operative availability of the

equipment.

Later in the vessel’s life-cycle, our capability to modernise and

convert the original solution helps the shipowner get even more

from the investment by optimising performance to match new

market needs.

To be competitive, your vehicle/pas-senger ferries or RoPaxes need flexi-ble cargo flow solutions that provide the fastest possible loading and dis-charging. The flow of traffic between the quay and ship must be smooth and efficient.

With our knowledge and experi-ence of the entire logistics chain, we can offer you an optimal solution, including the ship-to-shore connec-tion, which takes quay conditions and all your vessel’s requirements into account.

Maximum flexibility

Be prepared for swift changes in your cargo mix. Vehicle/passenger ferries need to adapt to seasonal variations – more cars in the summer, more trucks in winter.

A flexible system of hoistable car decks and ramps from MacGREGOR, enables you to respond rapidly to these requirements by adjusting the deck heights. Thus, your vessel will be able to handle virtually any mixture of vehicles and cargo.

Seamless transferral of passengers and vehicles from ship to shore

MacGREGOR stern ramps are specifi-cally designed to match the various types of quays and conditions at ports where your vessel will be calling. This applies to conventional quays as well as those dedicated to RoRo berths.

Reducing weight and maximizing cargo space increases profit

Naturally, every cubic metre of cargo space adds to the profitability of your operation and the RoRo equipment is designed to occupy as little cargo space as possible.

Our product development pro-gramme is focused on minimising equipment weight in relation to load-ing capacity, providing:• Lower fuel cost per tonne of freight• Greater cargo capacity

Safety and quality

MacGREGOR is actively engaged in all safety issues, working in close liai-son with the classification societies and authorities. Product quality isensured by our skilled engineers in

combination with our selected sub-contractor partners. Our in-house processes are certified to ISO 9001 standards.

With regard to quality

MacGREGOR has worldwide ISO 9000 certification in every location, including all product divisions and service branches. Our quality assur-ance covers both in-house and sub-contractors’ activities. We have long established trading relationships with our major suppliers.

Cargo flow solutions that keep you ahead

1. Bulwark visorA bulwark visor allows loading on the weatherdeck.

By opening the bulwark visor access to the upper

deck via the shore-based linkspan is achieved.

2. Front doorA weathertight door in the deckhouse front is need-

ed when the ship is configured for two-tier loading

by a shore-based ramp.

3. Bow ramp/doorIn closed position the bow ramp functions as a

weathertight door at the collision bulkhead. This door

is detached from the ramp due to safety reasons.

4. Bow doorsThe bow doors allow cargo access through the

bow and are constructed as a part of the hull. The

doors are designed with equivalent strength and a

number of securing devices.

5. Hoistable car deckHoistable car decks make it possible to quickly

change the configuration of the clear heights. They

are divided into panels and the end panels are

used as access ramps and are as wide as practical

for efficient driving on and off. The access ramps

can also be hoisted with a full load of cars.

MacGREGOR supplies a full range of RoRo access solutions suitable for ships operating on shortsea routes. Our electrical and hydraulic systems offer superior reliability, durability and maintenance-friendly installations.

11. Side doorsA series of standard doors are available, for exam-

ple passenger doors, bunker and pilot doors, which

can be supplied with or without frames.

10. Ramp coverThe ramp cover fulfils the same requirements for

load-carrying capacity and weathertightness as the

surrounding fixed deck.

6. Stern ramp/door The stern ramp often functions as a weathertight

door. The length and width of the ramp is designed

to handle tidal variations and smooth internal cargo

flow. The ramp is designed to suit adapted RoRo

berths or conventional linkspans.

9. Hydraulic Power PackThe hydraulic power pack supplies oil flow and

hydraulic pressure to all MacGREGOR equipment

installed on board.

7. Stern platformTwo-tier loading by the stern can either be directly

onto the upper deck or via a stern platform,

depending upon the shore ramp arrangement.

8. Hoistable ramps Hoistable ramps make more efficient use of the

cargo space than fixed ramps. For ships with both

bow and stern loading the tiltable ramp offers

greater flexibility.

Smooth cargo flow via linkspansMacGREGOR linkspans form a bridge between the quay and ferry. They are available in a wide range of models, all of which are regarded as shore-to-ship facilities.

There are floating linkspans, allow-ing ferries to berth at quays that are unsuitable because of size or shape, or for berths to be created at sites without regular quay facilities.A variety of articulated shore ramps,

permanent or mobile, are available to provide direct access to all RoRo decks.

All designs give smooth cargo flow independent of tidal variations and trim mode of the ferry.

The entire docking procedure is remotely controlled by telemetry from the vessel.

Innovation hand-in-hand with environmental thinkingShipowners and yards are aware that environmentally friendly ships are both economical and competitive. Electric drives

Always ahead, MacGREGOR has reduced the amount of hydraulic oil carried on board by developing envi-ronmentally friendly electric drives for RoRo equipment. Electric drives are suitable for linking to remote diagnos-tics systems.
