The lodge, as one of only two here, feels like a privileged perch from which to take in this wilderness, while its eco-friendly operation and design ensures it has very little impact on it. Every element – down to the finishes and soft furnishings – has taken its cue from the earth, serving to merge Mountain Lodge with its pristine environment.

Marataba Trails are our specialised walking safaris for seasoned hikers and safari goers, taking you from river gorges to mountain crests, and the far reaches of the reserve. But following the trails is also a wonderful opportunity to slow down and form a deeper, more intimate connection with nature as you investigate the smaller, no less fascinating, creatures and plants, often missed from the game viewers.
