WHAT’S THE DEAL?

… is dealing with the subjects of sustainablity and young urban cultures in an international, multidisciplinary and artistic way. During the last two years activities have been organized in all part-ner cities around the main topics mural art, skateboarding, urban biking, design, and D.I.Y. concepts: they ranged from research on urban scenes to creative interactions and workshops as well as to exciting art productions like the ›Nomadic Sculpture‹, a mobile sculpture for skateboarding which had been moved to different spots in Munich throughout last year.

›What’s the deal?‹ is questioning the idealized images of young urban scenes and their role models, which have been exploited as marketing objects by entire economic sectors. Instead, it high-lights alternative deals where personal passion and commit-ment for the cause create added value that reaches out beyond the boundaries of a community. New concepts come into play, even though their terms have already been established in the mainstream: sustainability and added value.

To act sustainably becomes the motor to transform one’s own lifestyle according to the principle ›You are the world in which you want to live!‹. How can existing resources be deployed more effectively to generate manifold outputs? And what kind of role do art and culture play in the development of these ideas?

FRI, JUNE 12 – SAT, JUNE 20EXHIBITION

FSPU – FROM SPACE TO PLACE TO UTOPIA

A project about urban wasteland – six places in Europe: present state, creative plans, wild utopias.

WTD LAB

Artists from Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Turkey and Slovenia have reflected on the topic of sustainability in the context of ›What s the deal?‹ and produced art work to show alternative solutions.

ART INTERVENTION AMSTERDAM – HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD AS A DESIGNER?

Fourteen European designers engaged themselves intensively in a multi-disciplinary manner with the subject of sustainabliity at the Art Intervention in Amsterdam at the beginning of this year. They present their far-reaching results in the exhibition.

›NOMADIC SCULPTURE‹ AND TRIKES

The Nomadic Sculpture is located in the outdoor area and is once again ready to be skated on. Next to it will be the artistic and unique trikes on display which were constructed during the Schmiede Bike Lab, also ready to be tried out. Both art works are excellent examples, how the (sharp) distinction between art and commodity item can become blurred.

WTD-INFOCENTER

The WTD Infocenter is the central contact point of the festival where text, pictures and videos about the background, research and results of the project are on display.
