What’s in a desk?
Organizing for productivity…
Take a look at your desk. Is it setting you up for productivity?
Here’s mine…
An ergonomic keyboard keeps me comfortable when typing for long
periods.
I customize the special buttons on my mouse so I can switch
windows and view my desktop quickly… in one click.
I use multiple computer input methods. Sometimes a mouse is better suited to some tasks and other times a trackpad is best.
I try not to litter my desktop with icons and make a point of “cleaning it” regularly. Making your icons “super big” helps,
because you run out of space more quickly. ;)
I clean out my downloads folder and
organize my files.
TWO monitors. One for my main work area. The other for background and side tasks.
I clear my desk of distractions. (Or at least try!) Admittedly,
Twitter can be a distraction, but I place it on my second monitor to
keep it out of my main workspace.
I keep my to do list open on my second monitor (not pictured), so I
can plan my work “at a glance.” I use the app “Clear.”
I keep my favorite pens on hand. Also a pencil, highlighter, and other writing implements “just in case.”
Old school post it notes still have a place on my desk. Especially to take notes during calls. I try
not to let them pile up.
I have a side desk, not pictured, for office supplies. They’re easy
to grab, but out of the way.
A place for water… to keep my fluids up. Maybe a healthy snack on hand?
I like Coke, too. ;)
A little bit of fun and humor never hurts… like my red “Office Space” stapler.
How do you organize your work space?
What sets you up for success?
