We begin with 2 days in the vibrant city of Malaga,
allowing time for independent exploration of the
extensive variety of art galleries and museums,
cafes and portside restaurants. A chance to taste
the tapas, and enjoy the friendly atmosphere in the
wide pedestrian shopping streets and plazas.
Host Diana meets us at the hotel in Malaga on our
3rd day for the short journey by private coach to the
serene Andalucian countryside and El Molino Viejo,
the charmingly restored centuries old mill in a quiet
valley surrounded by olive groves. There’s time to
absorb the relaxing atmosphere, to savour
Mediterranean cuisine during leisurely lunches in
the courtyard, tapas and long convivial dinners by
candlelight with new friends, afternoon dips in the
pool, one-to-one instruction, country walks and
plenty of laughter.
For more creative inspiration we’ll take a full day
excursion by private coach to explore the World
Heritage Site, the Alhambra.
Perry Haddock sees plein air painting “as a chance
to absorb and interpret the environment,
experiencing the ‘in the moment’ conditions – the
sounds and scents along with the views. Having
fun, staying loose, and generating paintings that
reveal the artist’s own interpretation of nature,
rather than a technical rendering, in short…. an
impression.”
“We’ll be a small group so we’ll have plenty of time
for one-on-one mentoring and personalized
attention while allowing artists to develop their
own skills. I’ll be painting and demonstrating in
acrylics but am happy to invite artists using oils or
watercolours to join in the fun.”
As he says “A chance to paint with a bunch of other
artists in Andalucia? With olive groves, cactus and
palm trees, a gorgeous and tranquil setting to paint
and share local food and wine? Bring it on!”
The atmosphere is true country charm with all the
amenities. The food will be expertly prepared fresh
each day by Diana and Ian, whose years of
experience as restauranteurs and chefs of
Mediterranean cuisine will undoubtedly complete
the experience.
