New ADePT Education version released
A new version of the ADePT Education software has been re-
leased. The software is a tool that uses household survey data
sets to analyze gender, income and geographic equity in educa-
tion. ADePT version 5.1 includes 1) a new Custom Tables Fea-
ture, 2) pop-up explanations for ADePT Output, 3) the ability to
load data and project files from internet (URL) and 4) ADePT
Portable Mode, which allows users to run ADePT from external
USB-drives without installing the program on the computer

EdStats team welcomes new manager
The EdStats team welcomes Vy Thao Nguyen, the new EdStats
team leader. Ms. Nguyen is an Education Economist whose cur-
rent work focuses on the development of system assessment
and benchmarking tools for equality in education. Prior to joining
the Education Unit, she worked as a researcher at the Research
Group of the World Bank in the topics of women’s fertility and
labor force participation and educational inequalities in Laos and
the Philippines. Ms. Nguyen received a doctorate in economics
from the American University, Washington D.C.

EdStats recently launched our first iPhone/iPad
application, the World Bank EdStats
DataFinder. This free app provides mobile ac-
cess to the 2000+ education indicators found in
the World Bank’s education statistics database
(EdStats Query). The app has internationally
comparable education indicators for more than
200 countries and regional/income groups on top-
ics such as:
Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary education from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics,
Learning Outcomes from international learning assessments including PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS,
LLECE, PASEC, and SACMEQ.
Education Equity from DHS and MICS household surveys.
Education Expenditures and Teachers from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS).
Education Projections from EPDC, IIASA/VID, and the Barro-Lee dataset.

Education Data on the Go: Getting to know the World Bank
EdStats DataFinder App
After launching the app, four navigation options appear at the bottom of the screen :
The BOOK tab presents education data profiles for 200+ countries and regional/income groups. Users
select one country/region/income group from the window below and can view the most recent data for
around 100 key education indicators. Users can send the profile in an email or bookmark the page as a
FAVORITE for future reference. A sample section of a BOOK data profile for Indonesia is included on
Page 3.

The app's DATA tab allows you to conduct a fast,
customized data query, chart and visualize the re-
sulting data, and share the data in your presenta-
tions and projects. The DATA tab provides access
to the 2000+ education indicators found in the Ed-
Stats Query.
Within the DATA tab, users can:
Select one or more countries, regions or in-
come groups.
Select one or more education indicators.
Designate a time period (5, 10, 20, or 50
years) of data to display.
View a data table of the selected data
View a line chart or bar chart of the selected
data (Page 4)
The FAVORITES tab provides quick access to bookmarked pages in the application – both from the
BOOK and DATA tabs. Use the “Add to Favorites” option to add a BOOK page or a data table/chart
to the favorites. You can also delete individual entries and reorganize them.
