Through funding we receive from Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, KRVC has been managing a Community Graffiti Clean-Up program over the past several years. This fall, we launched a new component of this important initiative – an awareness and education pro-gram . This program includes Stop Graffiti Days at area schools, so far PS 24 on Sep-tember 23rd and at PS 7 on October 22nd. The Stop Graf-fiti Days included presentations for the children in the 5th grade, Stop Graffiti Jeopardy! and a clean-up demonstration near the schools.
At both schools, Assemblyman Dinowitz addressed the chil-dren first. "I've always been very committed to beautifying our community. Whether plant-ing flowers or trees or fighting for clean streets or eliminating the scourge of graffiti. Our anti-graffiti program has cleaned-up hundreds of sites in our com-munity but we must constantly work not only to clean but also prevent graffiti."
The children were also treated to a presentation by Luis Rod-riguez, Community Affairs Offi-cer from the 50th Precinct and then they played “Stop Graffiti
Jeopardy!” The games were or-ganized by Tracy Shelton, KRVC’s Executive Director. After the assemblies, Bruce Pien-kny of City Solve, a professional graffiti clean-up organization, ex-plained the clean-up process through a demonstration in which he removed graffiti on the grounds of the schools.
KRVC, through generous funding from Con Edison, has given grants to several small busi-nesses to support their energy efficiency retrofit projects includ-ing: Mary Anne’s Gift Shoppe, Someplace Special, the New Little Shoppe, Bio Chem Labs, State Farm Insurance and more. These efforts will continue as an ongoing project of KRVC. We encourage businesses to take advantage of our “Go Green/
Save Green” grants. We are committed to making our commu-nity a “Green Community!”

KRVC continues to work with our partners Con Edison and Willdan to promote energy effi-ciency audits and surveys for all interested small businesses in our community. KRVC is also supporting other property own-ers interested in “going green” and “saving green.” To date, several businesses have been surveyed and retrofitted so that they will operate more effi-ciently.

On Thursday, September 30th, at an event organized by KRVC, a Community Bank Brochure was re-leased. This first edition of the guide was funded by Citibank. The release event, which included refresh-ments, was held at and sponsored by the Citibank Kingsbridge Branch, located at 5660 Broadway.
KRVC is in the process of reaching out to all the banks in our community to produce
the second version of the bank guide and the online version of the bank guide, which will include more detailed information and more bank advertisements. So far, Country Bank will place an ad in the second edition of the guide.
KRVC released a restau-rant guide, which was funded by Council Member Oliver Koppell, in July. The release event for the res-taurant guide was held at Jasper’s Pizza on Riverdale
Avenue. KRVC plans to pro-duce more community busi-ness guides. All our guides, including the Holiday Shop-ping Guide, described on
page one have a similar purpose: to promote local businesses and to serve our community.
The day was also part of an ongoing effort spearheaded by KRVC and State Senator Klein’s office to organize merchants and community members in North Riverdale.
