CPR: Be Safe Not Sorry New Construction Products Regulation (CPR) cable fire safety regs became law in July 2017.

CPR demands that all permanently installed power, telecommunications, data, and control cables be tested and certified for compliance with a uniform flammability classification. The old flame retardant, non-corrosive and low-smoke/zero-halogen (LSZH) standards have been superseded.

What to look out forFour new ‘Euroclass’ categories apply directly to low voltage cables: B2ca, Cca, Dca, and Eca in ascending order of flammability. Three performance sub-categories covering smoke production (classified s1 to s3 where s1 is the most resisitant); flaming droplets (d0 to d2 where d0 is the most demanding); and acidity (a1 to a3 where a1 is most demanding).

The CPR approved cable’s classification appears on the jacket and would for example look like this: Dca-s 3,d2,a3.

Raising the AX!

What is .11ax?Promising speeds at least four times faster than today’s 802.11ac, the new IEEE 802.11ax wireless networking standard is set to shatter the current bandwidth ceiling, paving the way for zero latency wireless environments. Slated for late 2018/early 2019 .11ax quadruples .11ac’s MIMO (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) capabilities from 3.4 Gbps (4 x 867 Mbps antennas) to a maximum theoretical bandwidth of 14 Gbps (4x4:4). Each of the four .11ax MIMO spatial streams is multiplexed using OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access), a technique which stacks channels more efficiently at 90 degree phase angles, boosting throughput dramatically. And the added good news is that .11ax will be backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards.

What about Ruckus?

The first .11ax Ruckus AP is likely to be the R730 and availability is scheduled end 2018. Because the 730’s from Ruckus, its lightning-fast .11ax performance will be enhanced with proprietary BeamFlex+ adaptive antenna technology and ChannelFly dynamic channel monitoring, which automatically finds the least congested channels for the highest throughput the band can support. What’s more the Ruckus’ ICX7650 switch, available from Habitech, is equipped to support .11ax deployments (and it’s a snip at £4.5K!)

Up to 133 millionreasons to believeProjecta’s mirror-like ‘HD Progressive’ vinyl screen surface is designed to deliver seamless optical fidelity from multi-mega pixel populations. It’s optimised for a range of ambient light conditions and lab-tested to accurately reflect resolutions all the way to a whopping 16K - picture that! Available from Habitech today, the wide, uniquely capable HD Progressive line-up has versatility, performance and years of future-proofing built-in. Install and wait for the projection tech to catch up!

Compare and ContrastShipping in April, the new ‘HD Progressive 1.1 Contrast’ screen surface provides a deeper reproduction of black and an increased reflectivity to enhance brightness in moderate ambient light conditions. It’s mega-resolution ready and perfect for enhanced definition and contrast, especially in media room environments.

I n t r o d u c i n g

On a rollWhen the room’s too bright for quality projection, the Parallax surface features an advanced optical lens system which rejects rather than diffuses light. It’s been a fixed frame option for a couple of years, but now Parallax is available for Projecta’s motorised projection screens. The new Parallax 0.8 ALR surface is an option on the Tensioned Elpro Concept and new Tensioned DescenderPRO models. When you get the call for mega-screen entertainment in a bright environment, but the budget won’t stretch to a colossal TV, think about installing a light-rejecting projection screen that simply disappears!

Easy and discreet With Projecta’s new DescenderPro motorised screen, the magic of in-ceiling screen installation has never been easier to conjure. After the case is installed, the entire roller (including motor and screen surface) simply clicks-in. What’s more, the new case design offers a clean finish without gaps or visible screws when the bottom plate is attached. And you can choose the new motorised ALR surface option in addition to the high resolution HD Progressive materials.

Perfectionists Unite! Debuting at ISE 18, Wisdom Audio’s second-generation SC-2 8-in/16-out and SC-3 16-in/32-out system controllers provide you with the ultimate audio calibration suite to cure all acoustic headaches.

Now featuring Dirac Live ™, the controllers are designed to eliminate resonances and fine-tune the system’s in-room response to perfection. Expert Mode offers an additional layer of live tuning features, equalisation tools, and the ability to override delays and trim EQ. With four preset slots to store up to four complete and independent calibrations, installers have plenty of room to perform multiple room correction setups for up to 16 zones or rooms.

New Wisdom Soundbars: super-discreet high audio tech

Perfect for super-plush media rooms and available in custom lengths of up to 98 inches, Wisdom’s Sage Series Superbars deliver exceptional audio and comparable aesthetic design in standard black or a colour customised to fit the environment. The new Superbar Series includes four models: C20m x2; C38m x2; C20m x3 and C38m x1, all featuring a planar magnetic hybrid design that yields superior detail, outstanding dynamic range, and controlled directivity for a more consistent and realistic level of performance from a sleek low-profile form factor.

NEW! Sonance Cinema Reference speakersMedia room installations should meet at least three demands: to be ultra-discreet; to deliver the best audio performance for music listening and provide the audio impact and detail which enhance the movie experience. These are the objectives driving the design of the new Cinema Reference series. They may appear similar to their VP predecessors - in fact, having the same footprint, they’ll drop into existing cavities for easy upgrade - but add larger drivers to go louder and lower than before. Their 4th generation coaxial speakers employ carbon fibre/rohacell laminated cones paired with ceramic dome tweeters. The high-excursion woofers have 38mm voice coils, which deliver +/- 8mm of linear excursion. There are 9 new SKUs including two in-wall LCR speakers, two matching inwall surrounds, two in-wall subs an in-ceiling LCR (with separately sold enclosure), and an in-ceiling surround (with separately sold enclosure). A cabinet centre channel is also available if an in-wall centre channel speaker isn’t practical.

Cinema Reference subwoofersThe two new Reference subwoofers (10” and 12”) will drop into the in-wall cabinets of their predecessors and are equipped with dual spider technology for a level of performance and output that is unmatched in an in-wall subwoofer.

The line comprises a round 6” (VPXT6R), a round 6” single stereo (VPXT6R SST), a 6” rectangle (VPXT6) and a new round 8” (VPXT8R). Round speakers have round or square grille options with improved grille mounting system (XPC grille retention technology), which has 8 capture points and ensures that the grille will remain secure even during pressure washing.

Sonance is boosting the quality of outdoor audio with a new line Landscape Series products including two new satellites: a 4-inch (LS4T) and a 6-inch version (LS6T), and three new subwoofers: a 12-inch in-ground subwoofer, 15-inch in-ground subwoofer and a 12-inch hard-scape subwoofer. The new sat design offers higher output, wider dispersion and increased fidelity than its predecessors, and includes the selectable voltage tap dial from SPS. The subs utilise power ratio innovations from the new Impact subwoofers for the ultimate in free-air bass!

Ultra-Skinny In-CeilingAnother exciting new product shown at ISE is an ultra-thin two way 5.25-inch in-ceiling speaker. The VP52R UTL has a mounting depth of only 36.5 mm, allowing it to squeeze into the tightest spaces above the ceiling. Sonic performance is similar to the VP42R, and once the grill is attached, it matches the appearance of any standard 6” VP speaker.

The Future Shape ofGarden Sound

BPS-6TL Thin-line subwooferComplements the Discrete Opening System, where BPS6 or BPS8 subwoofers can’t go. With dimensions 100.01 cm x 27.94 cm x 8.57cm, it will install between wall studs, in the floor, under a cabinet etc. Unique acoustic design delivers a performance level close to that of the BPS8.

D8 dual 8” SQUARE subwooferThe D8 dual 8” SQUARE subwoofer offers the same output as a 12” woofer within an ultra-compact cabinet design. Includes DSP with 16-band parametric EQ and room correction via the SonARC iPhone app through a built-in wireless receiver and optional wireless transmitter.

Low Pros Sonance Professional Series includes a range of 70V, 100V, 8 ohm selectable In-Ceiling, Pendant and Surface Mount Speakers that deliver unequalled fidelity, extremely low distortion, wide dispersion and smooth power response. The range also shares consistent voicing, ensuring seamless sonic integration when used together throughout a space. And two new low-profile in-ceiling 2-ways: the 4-inch PS-C43RTLP (85mm deep) and 6” PS-C63RTLP (111mm deep) will expand the wide integration options to shallow ceiling voids.

What is AV-over-IP?AVoIP is a method of distributing audio, video, control signals and more over standard IP Networks utilizing a variety of compression technologies to encode and decode transmissions between source and display depending on network demands and desired image quality. It was used initially in a variety of ProAV applications due to its low bandwidth characteristics, compatibility with existing network infrastructures and cost-efficient scalability for large footprint arrays. However, AVoIP technology has evolved to include low and zero latency transmissions, seamless switching and lossless video quality supporting 4K UHD, high frame rates, 4:4:4 and HDR to become an increasingly viable alternative to conventional AV transmission over distance technologies for both residential and commercial applications.

Weaponise Your Client Security

Dahua Tech is on a mission to make your customer’s security more robust and easier to install. For practically every application you can imagine, Dahua has the hardware, bristling with class-leading functionality.

For instance, if you’re after high pixel resolutions, you can count on UHD-4K capability across all platforms, and deploy sophisticated IVS analytics from virtually every camera, as well as ultra-low light Starlight operation and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) technology - all supported by PoE convenience, proprietary NVRs and a great control app. Through Dahua the most vigilant security inside and outside is easily networked, applied and demonstrated. And the best thing is while you’re protecting your client you’re also boosting your bottom line, because Dahua’s extraordinary range is available at ultra-competitive price points!

APNR all-in-oneIt’s a mouthful to pronounce and deliver but the challenge of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (APNR) is made a little easier when the LPR algorithms and white list databases are integrated with the camera (rather than in a computer). Two new Dahua designs are so equipped. Each is IP66 and armed with ultra-low light Starlight and WDR tech, delivering true day/night operation. With an 8m range the smaller ITC237-PW1A-IRZ (£399 Trade) is perfect for barriers/gates when the cars need to stop. Its bigger cousin, the ITC237-PU1A-IRHL (£499 Trade) has the ability to detect and recognise a moving vehicle's plate number at speeds up to 40 kmh from up to 40m away!

Entry-level EyeballYou won’t believe what the super-discreet new DH-IPC-HDW4431MP, a 4MP IR Eyeball Network camera can do for under £100 trade. Equipped with IP67 weather and IK10 anti-violence protection, this tough little sentinel is bristling with Intelligent Video System (IVS) analytics and up to 4MP (2688×1520) imaging capability with WDR contrast optimisation to snare any intruder day or night (IR LED range 30m). What’s more the latest H265 video compression gives you both recording quality and economy.

The Longest ReachAnd finally for the surveillance of large spaces requiring cameras in far flung positions, Dahua has just introduced its proprietary ‘extended Power over Ethernet’ (ePoE) system of cameras, network switches and network recorders, delivering IP video, audio, control and power over CAT between the camera and network switch (or NVR with embedded switch) at an astonishing 800m range. Genius!
