What the airport could look like between 2035 - 2040
The expansion of Heathrow will be one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK and developing our final plan will be a complex process.
We have a successful track-record in delivering these types of projects as seen by both Terminal 2 and Terminal 5.
We have carefully considered environmental, community, cost, operational, delivery and planning factors to identify options for the project.

Heathrow’s expansion
Expanding Heathrow is much more than building a new runway.
To operate a three-runway airport, we need to provide:
• terminal, apron and baggage infrastructure to serve the extra aircraft and passengers
• facilities within the airport boundary to handle cargo imports and exports
• taxiways to connect the new runway with the existing airport and expanded airport facilities
• supporting and related facilities for the airport such as aircraft maintenance, fuel storage, car parking and ground support equipment
To achieve this, we need to:
• re-position and build over part of the M25 and improve junctions to handle the altered traffic flows
• re-position part of the A4 and A3044 as well as making improvements to other local roads which access the airport
• divert local rivers and create new areas of flood storage
• provide new areas for landscaping, protecting habitats and wildlife corridors
• provide new space for hotels, offices, car parks, freight forwarding and flight catering facilities
• replace some facilities and infrastructure that need to be moved to allow expansion such as the Immigration Removal Centres and utilities
• use temporary construction areas to build the new runway and expanded airport
We are committed to providing measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the project on the environment and local communities, such as providing noise insulation for homes and community buildings.
We are also committed to ensuring our plans can be delivered while keeping the airport charges – the fee airlines pay to operate at the airport – at close to current levels. We are building on the proposals we submitted to the Airports Commission to deliver the best overall solution for an expanded Heathrow.
We have not made any final decisions on the layout and design of the expanded airport. Heathrow’s public consultations, together with our on-going design work and the findings of more detailed surveys and assessments, will be used to develop a preferred scheme for Heathrow’s expansion.
Tell us what you think
Please tell us how you think we should best bring the various components together to build our masterplan for the expansion of the airport and what factors you think should
be most important in our decision-making.

Logistics Hubs
We’ll use these hubs to:
• deliver economic benefits across Britain
• deliver efficient and affordable expansion
• enable quicker delivery to unlock the benefits of an expanded airport sooner
• create a platform for excellence in sustainability
• support our existing Heathrow operation
• look for potential collaboration with other infrastructure projects
Heathrow has committed to locate four Logistics Hubs across the UK, spreading the economic benefits of expansion to communities across Britain.

To support the development of our delivery model to ensure the successful delivery of the Heathrow Expansion programme we are going to facilitate a series of initial workshops to focus on some of the ‘key challenges’ we face not only as a programme but also a wider industry.
Invitation to a series of workshops in response to our ‘challenges’.
1 Making Logistics Hubs work
2 Optimising offsite solutions
3 Drivers for improved efficiency
4 Low carbon construction solutions
5 Improving health, safety and wellbeing performance

This registration process will enable Heathrow to engage with an extended supply chain eco-system to allow us to further understand the current landscape, to identify organisations to potentially engage with for focussed workshops etc at this early stage of the programme and to support Heathrow’s 10yr + programme which will commence construction in 2021.
