RESULTS The data indicate that PCCA’s Lipoderm® delivered ketamine HCl, gabapentin, clonidine HCl and baclofen, simultaneously (and intact), into and through human cadaver skin, in vitro. The absorption profiles indicate a rapid penetration to a peak flux for gabapentin and baclofen occurring approximately one (1) hour after dose application, and approximately four (4) hours for ketamine HCl. Clonidine HCl exhibited a rapid penetration to an initial peak flux occurring one (1) hour after dose application, but also a secondary peak at approximately 40 hours, possibly due to a depot of some of the applied dose in the epidermis. (See Figures 1 through 5.) This one-of-a-kind study validates the ability of Lipoderm® to deliver four drugs simultaneously through human skin. This information is of great value for pharmacists and physicians utilizing topical preparations for various pain syndromes.

What is Transdermal Pain Therapy? Study Involving TC Neuromax’s Transdermal Cream (Lipoderm®)
A Possible Solution for You and Your Patients:Transdermal pain therapy targets neuropathic, musculoskeletal and inflammatory pain by combining drugs with multiple mechanisms of action into an innovative delivery system.• Provides localized enhanced drug delivery directly to the site of pain• Drugs for pain are incorporated into a proprietary transdermal cream that has proven
results to deliver multiple drugs through the skin (see study on following page)• Unique options for patients and confidence for prescribers

Nearly two in five (36%) Americans would refuse prescribed or physician-recommended pain medication for fear of getting addicted.
One in three (34%) Americans believe pain medications that come with side effects are worse than the pain itself.
One in three (31%) Americans would not even speak to a medical professional about their pain for fear they could not afford treatment.
Concentration of therapeutic levels of many drugs is higher in tissues while lower in serumComparison and evaluation of topical NSAIDs are difficult due to the diversity of presentations of the marketed drugs and variety of methods used in the trials. Overall, when NSAIDs are applied topically, a high concentration is observed in the dermis and muscles (equivalent to that obtained with oral route), with less gastrointestinal effects. Common Challenges with Oral Medications:1. Lack of Efficacy2. Patient develops tolerance3. GI side effects4. Nausea5. Constipation
6. Gastric bleeding7. CNS side effects8. Confusion9. Change in mood/misuse10. Abuse/Overdose *
* More than 16,500 people die of overdoses from prescription painkillers annually, more than all illegal drugs combined (including Heroin and Cocaine) Source : Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
Benefits of Transdermal Pain Therapy:1. Ease of administration/application for patients; do not need to swallow multiple medications2. Ability to combine multiple drugs into one dose3. Provides a goal for pain relief with reducing the dose or need for oral narcotics4. Option for prescriptions with non-controlled drugs5. Less potential systemic drug absorption with the goal of fewer side effects
