Sleeping paralysis
Only warm-blooded vertebrates (mammals and birds) exhibit REM sleep
Recuperate physicallyImproves memory.
What happens when we sleep ?
Brain rests during slow-wave sleep.
Deprivation does not appear to interfere with ability to perform physical exercise.
Restorative effects of sleep appear to be more important for brain than rest of body.
Why do we sleep ?
What is Sleep Paralysis?Sleep paralysis consists of a period
when one cannot perform voluntary movements.
REM sleep- The stage of sleep marked by rapid eye movements, dreaming, and paralysis of motor systems; sleep with an activated brain
In normal REM sleep, neurotransmitters in your spinal cord prevent you from moving during dreams. When REM ends, their hold lifts. But If you wake too quickly, you might emerge mid-paralysis
Often with dream-like hallucinations
ISP(isolated sleep paralysis)RISP(recurrent isolated sleep paralysis)
Classification of sleep paralysis -:
symptoms
There might be some terror
Highly related to narcolepsy, uncontrolled sleeping
Ends with a sound or touch
Alien abductionsGhostly encounters
Comparisons
Sleep Paralysis’s Relation to Alien Abductions & ghostly encounters
What it Means ?
Victims of sleep paralysis and “alien abductions” report highly similar experiences.
You might see or hear things that don’t exist in real life
Many feel a heavy weight on their chests
ParalysisYou cannot move any part of your body except, blinking and breathingYour brain inhibits you from moving to prevent any injury during dreamsEven though you’re
awake, brain still thinks it is a dreaming sustaining paralysis
ClonazepamDaytime medicine for ADH (Attention-deficit Hyperactivity), and structured sleep pattern
Ritalin• Highly effective
• Take at bedtime
• Muscle relaxation
Use of hypnotics
