Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) means electronics, communications, or information processing used singly or in combination: to enhance surface transportation efficiency, reliability and facilitation of intermodalism; to enhance safe operation of motor vehicles and nonmotorized vehicles; and to protect and enhance the natural environment and other resources affected by surface transportation.
