    My Plan For SITE BC

The mission statement of our society (Site BC), clearly states its main aim is promoting

the full potential of foreign trained engineers so they can more meaningfully contribute

their knowledge and skills to strengthening the Canadian economy. Nothing can be morenoble. wish to be a part of this effort by offering myself as a candidate for the position

    of !irector.

"a#ing come to Canada in the year $%%%, ha#e had the good fortune of ha#ing

e&perienced the 'oy and failures of an nternationally Trained ngineer*, in the Canadian

'ob market. +ood fortune, cause landed into some of the 'obs where a foreign trained is

not easily welcomed. y e&perience was not without frustrations. had to o#ercome a

number of my short comings. They primarily related to my computer skills and

computeri-ed drafting which were still in their infancies in my home country. #en when

got into an industry in my own field, always had the feeling that my potential was

being underutili-ed. ost employers used me as a draftsman rather than an engineer.

n addition to my 'ob e&perience in #aried fields, some of which did not relate to my

ualifications, ha#e had the opportunity to successfully complete two post graduate

educational programs. also attended three distinct career de#elopment programs, where

was not only taught but also assessed in my inter#iew skills and am proud to say that

my inter#iew skills were 'udged best in two of the programs.

think my e&perience in Canada has fostered in me the right skills to understand the

aspirations and short comings of an internationally trained engineer. ha#e also learnt the

art of o#ercoming these short comings and the path to be taken in reali-ing onesaspirations.

f am gi#en the opportunity to ser#e the Society, would carry out e#erything that

Society stands for by enhancing its current acti#ities / establish and e&pand mutual

relationships with professional societies and business associations0 promote the skills,

knowledge and talent of our members0 facilitate and promote professional de#elopment

and networking opportunities for our members0 ad#ocate for broader recognition of

members1 ualifications and work with regulatory bodies to facilitate professional

participation of our members0 pro#ide resource and direction for all internationally

trained engineers 2 and *ll do all this with a missionary -eal. y e&perience, mentioned

abo#e, substantiates that ha#e the necessary knowledge of the task in hand

n addition to abo#e, would organi-e small cooperati#es or companies, consisting of the

members of the Society. Such organi-ations would pro#ide much needed Canadian

&perience to our members in their own field and if successful, a permanent employment

and perhaps some income to the Society.

3ast but not the least, the members of the Society need healthy sociali-ing, to promote

this, would organi-e freuent interaction among their families by organi-ing picnics,

photographic and other competitions, parties, games etc. Some of our members, who

ha#e recently come to Canada, may be ha#ing difficulty financial or otherwise, would

pro#ide them the necessary information with regard to facilities a#ailable such as the

4ood Bank, to counter these difficulties.
