Wharf Unveils its Chengdu International Finance Square Setting a New City Landmark in China West Bringing Hundreds of
World-Renowned Brands to China’s “New First-tier” City
(January 14, 2014 Chengdu) The Wharf Holdings Limited today announces the official opening of
the integrated commercial real estate flagship, Chengdu International Finance Square (Chengdu
IFS), officiated by senior management of the Group in Chengdu, Sichuan.
Established itself as a new city landmark in the western China, the mall also kicked off its giant
panda art and charity crossover project to raise awareness of protection of pandas.
International Finance Square (IFS) is Wharf's flagship commercial real estate brand and is
developed based on the long-established Harbour City in Hong Kong. Chengdu IFS which opens
today marks the first of the five IFS projects being developed by the Wharf Group in the mainland
China.
Chengdu IFS is located on Hongxing Road, a core commercial district, with a total investment
exceeding 16 billion RMB. A total of 760,000 square meters of area covers a flagship shopping

and charity crossover event that will attract worldwide attention. Chengdu IFS has collaborated
with world-renowned artist Lawrence Argent to build the unprecedented outdoor giant panda art
installation in Chengdu, to raise public awareness of the protection of pandas.
The world's biggest 15-meter tall outdoor giant panda with the theme of "I Am Here" has been
installed for Chengdu IFS. Currently clinging to the exterior of Chengdu IFS, the gigantic panda
has not only drawn both city wide and international attention.

To further arouse public interest, 20 renowned celebrities and trendsetters including Maggie
Cheung, Jennifer Du, Yue Minjun, Yohji Yamamoto, Paul Smith, Pharrell Williams, Alber Elbaz,
Sarah Andelman, Huang Xiaoming, Zhou Xun, Ashin & NO2GOOD, Pang Ho-Cheung, Show Lo,
Nicola Formichetti, Aaron Kwok, Zheng Jie, Carina Lau, NIGO, D*Face and PHSHA T, are invited to
design their unique panda sculptures, with portraits taken by world acclaimed Asian
photographer Leslie Kee and famous creative consultant Sean Kunjambu. The 20 panda
sculptures will be publicly auctioned at Chengdu IFS with the proceeds to be donated to China
Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda.
Chengdu IFS will open an antiquity plaza on the first floor, as well as a sculpture garden and an art
gallery on the 7th floor. The gallery will feature works from Zhou Chunya, He Duoling, Zhao
Nengzhi, Jiao Xingtao, Mo Yixin, Kumari Nahappan, Seon Ghi Bahk, and many other world
renowned leading artists, which will not only make Chengdu IFS a fashion spot featuring
cutting-edge art and culture essences, but also bring to the locals more amusement and art
experiences besides shopping.

Chengdu IFS
Chengdu International Finance Square (Chengdu IFS) occupies the most coveted location within

About Lawrence Argent
Preeminent artist Lawrence Argent has captured public imagination and become a household
name in the United States with his mega public art installations “I see what you mean” and
“Leap”. Invited by Chengdu IFS, Argent has embarked on his first gigantic outdoor art
installation project in China. With China's beloved giant panda as the theme, Argent has created a
15-metre tall giant panda outdoor art installation named “I am here”. This will be the largest
outdoor art installation ever in the artistic creation history of Chengdu, the home of giant pandas.
On public display at Chengdu IFS, this art installation enables visitors to explore the giant panda's
world of wonder and appreciate the significance of the peaceful coexistence of a human society
and giant pandas.
The artist Lawrence Argent has imbued in his giant panda art installation with significant
substance and a profound meaning beyond the creature's status as the symbol of Sichuan and
China. By christening his 15-metre tall, 13-tonne colossal creation “I am here”, Argent conveys
double meaning: he not only aims to provoke our thought about our own existence through this
art installation, the artist also wants us to reflect on the growing prosperity of the city. The giant

panda art installation reminds us that we should not neglect the care for the giant pandas, which
share the same planet earth with us all amidst rapid commercial development. The giant panda
art installation will be shown in Chengdu International Finance Square on Hongxing Pedestrian
Street which is bond to arouse the attention of all over the city.
Giant panda Rescue and Disease Control & Prevention Center in Dujiangyan
Giant Panda Protection and Research Center of China was founded in 1980, which was established
by the Chinese government cooperating with WWF. The earthquake reconstruction of research
center is centered in Wolong, there are 3 bases including Wolong base, Bifengxia base and the
disease control center of Dujiangyan forming “one center, three bases" pattern.
Giant Panda Rescue and Disease Control & Prevention Center in Dujiangyan was provided
assistance by Hong Kong SAR government as a landmark projects for Wolong nature reservation,
which located in the town of Qingcheng mountain in Dujiangyan, the total construction area is
about 12,542 square meters. Giant Panda Rescue and Disease Control & Prevention Center
inDujiangyan is a nonprofit scientific base for giant panda rescue, disease prevention and control.
The main research is giant panda care, disease prevention and control, quarantine and transfer,
which is one of the biggest centers for giant panda rescue, disease control and prevention. It
provides good treatment and living space for giant panda release. Meanwhile, it also can offer a
special rehabilitation for old giant panda base, greatly improved animal welfare protection of old
giant panda.
