It has been wonderful to welcome back approximately 60% of our students after the extended break. We believe that the sooner we can return to normal operations the better. Our thanks go to all our community for the way you have supported us during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our staff have worked hard to provide the best and safest learning environment for our students whether they be at school or doing learning from home. We will continue to follow the advice of the State Government and the Department of Education in order to provide for the needs of all our students. The children have all managed really well and show themselves to be very resilient and very responsible. It is lovely seeing older children walking younger siblings to class. It was also terrific to see the students amazing skills at hand washing. Health and Safety COVID-19 The Department of Education has put in place a number of measures to ensure the health and safety of our staff and students. Parents who wish to meet a teacher or member of Admin will need to arrange a time for a phone conversation. If you need to pick your child up for an appointment during the day, please ask your child to inform their teacher or phone the school office. A member of staff will walk with your child to the gate. Another measure has been the increase to our cleaning time and schedule. Our cleaners have been doing a wonderful job ensuring high traffic/touch areas are regularly cleaned. Parents and carers can be confident that we are providing a very safe environment for all students during the pandemic. Care and Support Many families in our school community are needing additional support during these challenging times. On our school Facebook page we are posting community groups and services which are offering support.

Dear Families Welcome back! It has been wonderful to welcome back approximately 60% of our students after the extended break. We believe that the sooner we can return to normal operations the better. Our thanks go to all our community for the way you have

To connect to our Facebook use the QR code at the top right of the first page

or search @westminsterjps on Facebook. Our school chaplain Mrs Anna Tan

and Mrs Clare Jones our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer are also

available to assist where possible.

Learning at Home Our students working on ‘Learning at Home’ are finding that the lessons are

engaging, relevant to their year level and not too complex. Class teachers

are following these lesson plans at school, so all students are accessing the

same content. Teachers are currently preparing the educational content for

weeks three and four. Children need to post their work on Seesaw or parents

need to return the completed work packs to the school. Teachers will contact

you regarding collecting and returning work packs.

School Board The election process for the school board was conducted last term. New

members to the school board are:

Arun Bishnoi - Parent representative

Fatima Pandor and Sarah Aitken - Teacher representatives

David Sawers - Community representative

A list of all the board members are printed on the left side of this page.

2021 Kindergarten and Pre-Primary Enrolments Applications for Enrolment in Kindergarten and Pre-Primary for

commencement in 2021 opened this week and will close on Friday 24th July

2020.

Once again, to all members of our community, thank you for the kind support

that you show to our staff and our school.

Kind regards,

The Westminster Amalgamation Implementation Committee met last week. Representatives from our

school on the committee are:

Andrea White - Principal

Arun Bishnoi - School Board Parent Representative

Fatima Pandor - Teacher Representative

Westminster Schools Parent and Citizen representatives are Natalie Krekora and Christina Maria

Soosa. Thank you for your input it is invaluable and we appreciate your time and efforts.

Please find some information from our first Minutes of the Westminster Amalgamation Implementation

Committee meeting held on Thursday 30th April 2020.

The selection and appointment for the new Principal of the new school is currently being

undertaken and will be completed before the end of this term.

The project has been formally approved by the Minister, meaning that we are able to commence

design as soon as possible. At this stage it is hard to estimate when construction itself will

commence as the amalgamation of two schools is a unique project.

There will be a new administration building, carpark upgrade and new signage.

What can you do to help your child become a better reader? Here are two simple tips, until the next newsletter.

Look at the cover and discuss whether the book is fiction or non-fiction? Fiction: Books about things that are not real. Non-Fiction: Books about real things and facts. Who is the main character of the book?

What is your character’s name? Describe what he/she looks like? What are they doing in the story? How is your character feeling? Does your character have a problem?

Regards Mrs Pandor & English Committee
