Raise the Barn. Grow the Community! West Niagara Agricultural Society (WNAS) is currently building the West Niagara Agricultural Centre with a projected completion date of the fall of 2014. WNAS has the funds to build, construction is in progress. In the days of old, the barn-raising was the way the community came together to help their fellow farmer. WNAS is seeking this type of support… for the community to come together to help their fellow farmers! By helping WNAS Raise the Barn, we will all be helping to Grow the Community! WNAS Goal: $1,500,000 The West Niagara Agricultural Society (W.N.A.S.) is a member based non-profit charitable organization. Incorporated in 1857 under the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act, changing the name in 2012. As outlined in the Act, the objects of an agricultural society are to encourage an awareness of agriculture and to promote improvements in the quality of life of persons living in an agricultural community by, a. researching the needs of the agricultural community and developing programs to meet those needs; b. holding agricultural exhibitions featuring competitions for which prizes may be awarded; c. promoting the conservation of natural resources; d. encouraging the beautification of the agricultural community; e. supporting and providing facilities to encourage activities intended to enrich rural life; and f. conducting or promoting horse races when authorized to do so by a by-law of the society. About West Niagara Agricultural Society

The West Niagara Agricultural Society (W.N.A.S.) is a member based non-profit charitable organization. Incorporated in 1857 under the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act, changing the name in 2012. As outlined in the Act, the objects of an agricultural society are to encourage an awareness of agriculture and to promote improvements in the quality of life of persons living in an agricultural community by,

Timeline2012: • Smithville Agricultural Society and Lincoln Agricultural Society combine to form the West Niagara Agricultural Society• Property at Mud & Mountain Roads purchased to become home of the new West Niagara Agricultural Centre

2013: • Architects, engineers and planners hired to develop plan, drawings and facility specifications for the new Ag Centre• First West Niagara Fair held at temporary grounds• Contract awarded to begin construction of new Ag Centre

2014:January: • Ground-breaking at Mud & Mountain roads for new Ag Centre• Marketing firm hired to begin work on fundraising campaign• 2014 Board elected February:• Fundraising campaign announcedMarch:• Changes to website and fundraising campaign startedFall 2015: Planned completion of West Niagara Agricultural Centre

Community Initiatives Township of West Lincoln Community Strategic PlanEconomic Prosperity & Tourism Objective: Make economic development & tourism a key priority.Strategy: Foster entrepreneurship by creating a business-friendly community that supports job creation, innovation and local tourism opportunities

Economic Development

The West Niagara Agricultural Centre is ultimately being constructed to serve as the focal point of all things agricultural and will be home to the West Niagara Agricultural Fair September 10-13, 2015 and each year thereafter, the weekend after Labour Day.

Economic DevelopmentThe new West Niagara Agricultural Centre will be available for community rental for such events as:

• Meetings • Community Events• Tradeshows • Equestrian Events• Dog shows • Cooking Classes & Demonstrations• 4-H meetings and shows • Farmers’ Market• Car Shows • Fundraisers• Entertainment • Weddings

Drawing from the entire region, the new facility will add to the economic development of West Lincoln, to agricultural awareness and longevity, help build on tourism and offer a stronger community because of the activity and promotion within this community.

The West Niagara Agricultural Society has the funds required to build. We require the community’s help in making this Agricultural Centre sustainable and functional. Your contributions will help us purchase the required equipment, furniture, accessories, landscaping, fixtures and provide maintenance to the property.
