WEST COAST ABATE NEWSLETTER SERVING SARASOTA & MANATEE COUNTIES JULY 2011 A American B Bikers A Aiming T Toward E Education FROM THE PRESIDENT I would like to thank all the members that helped the chapter out last month. I would like to give special thanks to Eric Thompson and Bob Bonella for attending the state meeting with me. Our trip to Middleburg, Fl was accomplished in one day without a stay over. This helped the chapter save on hotel fees and allowed us to take a vehicle to bring back our new safety items. As many of you are aware, we had our elections for new board positions at the last chapter meeting. The results are as follows: President – Jim Gladstone PR/Comm – Jim Gladstone VP ‐ Mike Gesell Safety Director – Bob Bonella Secretary ‐ Margie Gladstone Treasurer ‐ Carol Hart Membership ‐ Jim Gladstone & Margie Gladstone Sgt at Arms – Bob Bonella Newsletter ‐ Jim Gladstone & Margie Gladstone Legislative Rep – Eric Thompson State Reps – Jim Gladstone & Mike Gesell I hope all of you help welcome these new volunteers into our board. After all, they are working for all of us. There are still committee positions as well as committee heads still available to those willing to volunteer. Contact me and let me know your interests. Check our events section for more info on upcoming Bike Nights and events. Don’t forget that on July 29‐31 we have our 5 Star +1 Event with the other chapters down in Estero River. I hope a lot of you will attend this event as this is the first time we are participating as partners. Rumor has it that the chapter with the most members in attendance gets their logo in the middle of the flyer for next year’s event. It is primitive camping but will be a lot of fun that includes live music, tattoo contest, pin‐up girl contest, car show, motorcycle show, motorcycle games and vendors. With that being said, we are in the process of preparing our rodeo games and equipment for the upcoming 5 Star event. We have secured ‘Marcanthony Roman’ for our band and it is sure to be a hit. We hope as many of you as possible will attend. Ride Safe and have fun. Hope to see you all soon. Jim Gladstone GOALS & PURPOSE To fight for freedom of the road and freedom of choice for motorcyclist riders of Florida To become a powerful and viable political force in Florida by encouraging riders to register to vote and to communicate with their legislators. To promote safe riding habits and to promote driver awareness without infringing on the rights of individuals. To work towards educating legislators on motorcycle issues so they may be able to make the right decisions regarding Florida motorcycle laws. To publish a newsletter to keep members of ABATE of Florida Inc. informed.
