Introduction to Welding Processes
This hybridized workshop is a fast-paced introduction to a variety of welding processes commonly used in state and municipal garages today. This course is structured to provide a demonstration of the equipment and fundamentals of each process in combination with a description and discussion of the process limitations and typical applications. Students will gain an understanding and appreciation of these processes through hands-on application of the techniques used in the following: thermal cutting (OFC and plasma); shielded metal arc welding (60ll and 7018) and gas metal arc welding (ER70S). The structure and duration of this experience is a basic introduction and therefore is not designed to build proficiency in any single welding process. This workshop is a prerequisite to the Advanced Welding Processes workshop. Advanced Welding Processes Prerequisite: Introduction to Welding Processes This hybridized workshop is intended to continue the education and training that was introduced in the Introduction to Welding Processes workshop at a more focused and advanced level of instruction. The instructor will meet with students to identify areas of interest in welding processes and then work with each student to achieve their personal goals and professional competencies in areas like oxy-fuel and plasma-arc cutting, shielded metal arc (STICK) welding in various positions, metal arc and flux core arc (MIG) welding processes, and gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding processes. Upon completion of this course and with instructor and agency supervisor approval, students may schedule a welder performance qualification test(s) for FCAW, and SMAW processes through the American Welding Society at an additional cost.

Instructor
Antone “Tony” Bosnich - Power Mechanics/Welding
Instructor
Tony has been the full-time Program Instructor for the Stafford Technical Center Welding and Power Mechanics Program since August 2013, but actually joined the teaching staff two years earlier as the part-time Lead Welding Instructor in its adult workforce development and training program. A Northern California native, Tony received his early welding experience during his four-year enlistment in the United States Navy followed by a seven-year stint as a Journeyman/Welder with GKN Aerospace/Chem-tronics in San Diego. When he decided to relocate to the eastern coast of the United States, Bosnich spent six years at the Northland Job Corps bringing his teaching and welding skills to high-risk students from all over New England through this U.S. Department of Labor sponsored job training program based in Vergennes, Vermont. Since coming to Stafford, this certified welding educator (AWS-CWE) has collaborated with the Assistant Director for Adult Technical Education to design a sequenced curriculum of courses that would offer students an opportunity to access introductory to advanced level training in most welding processes including shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, and pipe. Most recently, Tony has taken the lead in expanding the reputation of the Stafford Welding School by designed custom welding courses for both General Electric Aviation and Hubbardton Forge, and this past spring brought his welding and training skills to the Vermont Agency of Transportation by providing an accelerated Introduction to Welding Processes course to twenty state and municipal employees.
Audience
Municipal employees interested in brushing up their skills in welding. Max students per workshop 10.
