To help shape the focus of qualification development and training provision, 3 recommendations were made to the government based on the research findings:

Support an industry‐led investigation into the accreditation of training providers.

Update regulation to ensure that all practitioners are properly qualified.

Ensure that training and qualifications meet the demands for high‐quality training required by the rapidly evolving industry.

Employers and training providers within the hair and beauty sector were surveyed revealing the following results:

85% of young adults(aged 25 to 34) have attained upper secondary education, which typically starts at around 15 or 16 years old.

Almost half (43%) have gone further and have a tertiary degree. 

In some countries the proportion of young adults with a university degree is even higher.

Purpose of our project

To support VTCT centres and learners who wish to undertake vocational qualifications through the medium of Welsh language skills 

Why has VTCT created this project?

• We listened to the needs of our centres

• We responded to the needs of our centres

• We recognised the importance of the Welsh language

• We wanted to provide opportunities for learners to gain a vocational qualification in the medium of English or Welsh

• Learners must hold a Level 4 Skin Blemish Removal qualification in order to progress onto the Advanced Blemish Removal qualification

• Learners are required to hold a Level 4 Laser and IPL qualification to progress onto the Laser Tattoo Removal qualification

• End examined by a Qualified ExaminerLearners are required to be on‐programme for a minimum of 14 weeks from registration /enrolment before they are entered into the practical and theory examinations

External Theory Examination – Externally set and externally marked multiple choice question paper

Assignment/Project Work – Externally set and internally marked.  These do not contribute to the overall grade, but contribute to the assessment outcome of the qualification

Clinical Case Studies – Externally set and internally marked. These do not contribute to the overall grade, but contribute to the assessment outcome of the qualification

External Theory Examination and External Practical Examination both contribute to 50% of the qualification grade

The Final Practical Examination

iTEC/VTCT will allocate an Examiner to your centre to carry out the final practical examination

Learners will be marked against a specific marking criteria:‐

Appearance, client care, preparation of area, hygiene and sterilisation, consultation, advanced skin assessment, treatment techniques, post care and homecare and oral questions

Approval and Recognition• Additional ‘Approval’ is required to be able to offer these qualifications

• You must gain both centre approval and qualification recognition

• An inspection of the premises and equipment needs to carried out prior to approval been given

• All teaching staff must hold an appropriate qualification or accredited training in the subject area to be taught

• Staff members will be required to undertake CPD

• This knowledge must be at the same level as, or higher than the training being delivered
