ASBI is excited to welcome back Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Intern Daniel Atwood for Yom Kippur, September 29 - 30.

Originally from Teaneck, NJ, Daniel Atwood is a 3rd year student at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah, living in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Daniel graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Honors Program at Yeshiva University with BAs in Psychology and Medieval Jewish Studies. Daniel's Honors Thesis on the cognitive and behavioral effects of social power won him the prestigious Henry Kressel Research Fellowship, as well as Yeshiva College's Psychology Award and Award for Best Thesis in Humanities & Social Sciences.

At YU, Daniel was proud to serve as the Senior Opinions Editor and Managing Editor of The Commentator, the official undergraduate newspaper. Daniel has worked as a 6th grade teacher at the Jewish Community Project in Manhattan and as a contemporary Jewish thought research assistant to Dr. Yehuda Kurtzer at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem.

Since starting Rabbinical school, Daniel completed an internship in hospital chaplaincy (CPE) at New York Presbyterian - Columbia University Medical Center and has taught Torah in communities from New Orleans, to Harvard University, to his home in Washington Heights. Daniel is very excited to learn, teach, and grow with the Anshe Sholom community!

Please join us for ASBI's Simchat Torah Celebration for Women on Friday, October 13, at 11:00 AM!

All women interested in reading from the Torah are invited to do so! Similar to the men, we will be cycling through 5 different aliyot until every woman who would like to leyn is able to do so.

This year, please visit asbi.org to sign up for as many/few psukim as you would like. Please help fill out cycle 1 before moving on to other cycles. We will be celebrating simchot and honoring our community through group aliyot.

PROJECT MISHPACHA 5778

ASBI MEMBERS: Project Mishpacha registration is now open!

What is Project Mishpacha? Project Mishpacha is an ASBI program where members join together for monthly Shabbat meals.

What is the goal of Project Mishpacha? The goal of Project Mishpacha is for ASBI members to get to know each other better through shared meals.

When will Project Mishpacha meet? In 2017-18, Project Mishpacha will meet on the 3rd Shabbat of the month for Shabbat lunch. The dates will be December 16, January 20, February 17, March 17, April 21, and May 19.

What food will the synagogue provide? This year we are offering two tracks, both with the same group options. The first track will be where the synagogue provides only the entree. In the second track, participants can make their own entrees and the synagogue will provide only dessert.

Is there any cost? Besides the cost of whatever you sign up to bring to each meal, the cost for participants for the entree track is $54 per adults and $28 per child age 3-12. The cost for participants for the dessert track is $18 per adult and $18 per child age 3-12.

How do I sign up? Log into your online membership account and complete the intake form before 11:59 PM on Tuesday, October 31. When you fill out all of the information on the online form, you will then be directed to our payment page to pay the registration fee. To log in, click the gray "Login" button at the top of the screen. If you have never logged in, or forgot your password, click "Login" and then the "forgot password" link—all members already have an account set up. HAPPENING AT ASBI

Daf Yomi at ASBI Participants from all backgrounds and all levels of experience are

welcome and encouraged to join us each weekday morning following Shacharit for the synchronized and coordinated study of

Talmud, based on a 1923 standardized calendar in which the entire Talmud is studied and completed, one double-sided page

each day, by Jews around the world, every 7.5 years.

Yom Kippur Babysitting & Programming Drop-Off & Pick-Up Details

During Yom Kippur, drop-off for Babysitting/Programming will be in the JCC. Please stop at the table on the first floor in the JCC to check in your child(ren)* before you then drop them off in the appropriate classroom; someone at the table will be able to direct you.

Babysitting will take place from 5:45—8:30 PM during Kol Nidre, 9:00 AM—3:00 PM Yom Kippur morning, and 5:30—7:30 PM Yom Kippur evening. Programming starts promptly at 6:15 PM for Kol Nidre and 10:00 AM Yom Kippur morning. Please note that babysitting is for drop-off only; the playroom will be available for parent-supervised play. Tot parents, please bring diapers and wipes, labeled with your family’s name when you drop off your child(ren).

Please pick up your child(ren) by 3:00 PM and check them out at the table in the JCC lobby—please check the programming schedule to see what room your child will be in. Children who have not been picked up by 3:00 PM will be brought to the JCC Upstairs Gym and can be picked up there after 3:15 PM.

*Please note that your child(ren) MUST be pre-registered. Unregistered children will not be allowed to participate. The playroom off the sanctuary will be available for parents to supervise their children.

Dedications and Donations

Anshe Sholom B’nai Israel Congregation is indebted to Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz, a”h, for his generosity to the synagogue and to the Marovitz Scholarship Fund.

The George Kranzler Library of Judaic Classics is donated in loving memory of Mr. George Kranzler by the Kranzler and Saltzman families.
