As well as using a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts to develop their

knowledge about the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings & Scots, children will mostly be

focusing on, ‘Beowulf’ by Kevin Crossley-Holland and will spend one week in

the Summer Term looking at ‘How to Train your Dragon’ by Pippa Goodhart.

Throughout the term we will be looking at a range of genre types. Within

each unit that we cover, we will be looking at key grammatical functions

appropriate to their ability. Each week or fortnight, the children work towards

an extended piece of writing that is then marked in detail so that they can

edit and improve it. We have a key focus on reviewing work and ensuring

that the children can go back and edit their mistakes so that they can

develop their understanding.

A list of recommended reading books (both fiction and non-fiction) are

included for your reference on the Welcome to Year 4 Summer Term letter.
