YOUTH EMPLOYMENTYOUTH EMPLOYMENTFunding by the General Fund

Current Programs:Current Programs:

Summer Youth Employment Program

(SYEP)Equips youth with a valuable work experience in their chosen career field.

Individuals work for 180 hours during the summer.

Ages 14 – 25.

On-the-Job Training (OJT)

Provides job training and work experience under the guidance and supervision of employers willing to train participants in an actual work environment up to 840 hours.Ages 16 – 25.

Partial Employment Technique

(PET)/Entrepreneurial Enrichment Program

Designed to assist students with pre-employment training and improve basic academic skills.Students are assisted in making the transition from school to work.Ages 14 – 18.

Labor Investing For Tomorrow (LIFT)

Created to provide college level students with an on-the-job orientation in various business, technical, and professional fields.Individuals work for 280 hours during the summer.Ages 18 – 25.

Life Skills Management (LSM)

Entails a series of workshops scheduled to provide participants with pre-employment and life skills necessary for successful career development and personal fulfillment.Ages 14 – 25.

Computer Literacy Training

Developed to assist participants with limited computer knowledge.The program is broken down into three sections: General Computer Knowledge Microsoft Office Features Basic Electronic CommunicationAges 14 – 25.

Mandate of Apprenticeship and Training VIC, Title 24, Chapter 10, Sections 221 – 234 (March 1974 as amended)

Purpose

The purpose of this legislation was to focus on the economic needs of the Virgin Islands for skilled workmen and more specifically to offer the youth of the Territory the opportunity to learn skilled trades through an established and proven training system

Function
