Dear People of Holy Family, St. Mary and St. Anthony Parish:
Just as the branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither
can you unless you remain in me.
(John 15:4)
May? My calendar must be missing a couple of months. We couldn’t be entering May
this week.... could we? If you thought you were busy before, hold on to your hats
because the month of celebrating first, lasts and futures is here!
Today at St. Anthony’s, we celebrate First Holy Communion at the 10:30am liturgy.
Next Saturday and Sunday, Holy Family and St. Mary’s will be celebrating with their second graders.. What
a beautiful sacrament that establishes a life long connection between our children and our Lord. It provides a
way for them to “remain on the vine” and so bear great fruit. Thank you parents for being faithful to the
promise you made at their baptisms to see that they would be raised with faith. And thank you to all teachers
and catechists who supported these parents by helping to grow faith in the hearts of these children.
Even as we celebrate firsts, we observe lasts this week. Already this Wednesday, we bring to an end our year
of Religious Education classes. It has been a year of growth and change for us. The offering of a meal before
evening classes has really caught on. We are so grateful to parents who have helped. A good portion of the
youth attending classes take advantage of the meal each week. And our monthly Hot Topic nights are off to a
good start though they certainly need more organization and creativity. It has been a good start at evangeliz-
ing our youth, catching their hearts as well as filling their heads. Or in the words of today’s gospel, helping
them to strengthen their connection to Jesus the vine.
When the Joint Religious Education Committee meets Thursday evening, they will be evaluating these
developments. St. Mary’s members will also be entertaining a proposal that came out of the Pastoral Council
meetings April 19th. The meeting was primarily dedicated to working on the budgets for the coming year.
But as they compared the first draft of the budget to our Mission and Vision statements, St. Mary’s council
members felt we were not directing enough resources toward our youth. They would like to see someone,
surely part time, to coordinate events for our youth. They were open to doing so with other parishes or on
their own. They want to support the efforts at evangelizing, catching the hearts, and connecting our youth to
the vine.
This week we publish the names of those who are willing to serve on our parish councils. Elections will be
the weekend of May 12 and 13. One of my greatest satisfactions as pastor is to see the growth in ownership
and leadership on our Councils and committees. Long gone are the days when people just came and listened
to the pastor talk. We have genuine discussions.... and arguments! People are engaged, which brings so
much new life and energy to our parishes. So please talk with these nominees and with the Lord.... for the
people we elect will have an impact on the future growth and vitality of our parishes.
Our parish May Crowning celebrations this year will be on May 6th at 10:30am at St. Anthony’s, May 12th at
4:00pm at Holy Family and May 13th at 8:30am at St. Mary’s. If you would like to be involved, contact
Janet Boh, Diane Perko or Joyce Rondorf. Our Masses honoring graduating High School seniors will be May
19th at 4:00pm at Holy Family, May 20th at 8:30am at St. Mary’s and at 10:30am at St. Anthony’s. And
while you are filling in your calendar, mark June 3 at the 10:30am Mass for recognizing 6th graders complet-
ing their education at St. Anthony’s. I have a special Mass with the St. Mary’s 6th graders on June 1st.
Even as we bring this year to an end, it is natural to wonder about next year. We rejoice that Mrs. Raycher,
Mrs. Pachan and Mrs. Harnisch are all returning next year to teach at St. Mary’s. We also rejoice that
Mrs. Heiman, Mrs. Malm and Miss Hoeser are all returning to teach at St. Anthony’s. And I ask you to pray
that an interview this Tuesday evening goes well. We will be meeting with an excellent candidate to follow
Mrs. Stelzer as lead teacher. Members of the interview committee include Pat Billings, Michelle Malm,
Cara Prior and myself. Pray we find the right person to keep us connected to the vine!
Fr. Steve

with breakfast at 8:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church and
by 9:00 we will be helping the elderly. We are looking for
some hard working, energetic students, groups or families,
to help clean up yards and wash windows.
Sacristans Wanted
St. Mary and St. Anthony Parish are seeking additional
Sacristans. A sacristan sets up the bread, wine and vessels
for weekend Masses. This is especially helpful when
there is a visiting priest. We have a complete job descrip-
tion and training will be provided At St. Anthony’s we are
also looking for a Head Sacristan which would involve
keeping track of liturgical supplies (hosts, wine, candles,
etc) and working with the parish finance secretaries to
order when needed. If interested contact either Florence
Briski or Fr. Steve.
Artist Needed.
When a person joins one of our parishes, the Family Life
Committee presents them with a Welcome Basket including
items like a parish pictorial directory, parish cook books,
maple syrup and information about the community. They
would like to also give them a crucifix. The gift would be
even more meaningful if made by parish members. If you
would be interested in making crucifixes to be given as gifts
please contact Candy Strey or Fr. Steve.
Students, Parents, Grandparents, Sign up Now! Mary said YES!
May Crowning is coming on May 6th at the 10:30 Sunday Mass. We could use many more students signed up. Our Mother Mary went thru a lot for us. She gave birth to Baby Jesus in a culture and time she could have been killed for such a thing. Her husband Joseph wanted to divorce her, he wasn't sure he could believe that with the Grace of God she was having a baby. That was only the start and sadly she watched her Son, beaten, condemned and crucified on the Cross. We invite all students from 4K - 12 to participate. We will come into Mass together and sit in reserved pews in the front. After the homily we will go to the back of church to bring flowers to Mary and to Crown her. We ask three things, please let us know so we have enough fresh flowers, stay for pictures after Mass and dress nicely, your prettiest dress up clothes or slacks and shirts for the boys. Call 715-743-2588 / or 715-937-5342 or bring the sign up sheets back.
