From the desk of
Fr. Burns
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Welcome to the Lenten season. It is a time when we are called to embrace the three great disciplines of the Church in a new and fresh way. Prayer, fasting, and alms giving are those three disciplines. As we think and pray about how the Holy Spirit is leading us to embrace these disci-plines, we should keep a few things in mind. We need to remember that we are not just jumping through hoops or following a set of rules for no reason. Our extra prayer, our saying to ourselves in fasting, and our giving to the poor are supposed to be drawing us closer to Jesus. The whole purpose of the Lenten journey is to draw close to Jesus and to become more like him. In your strategy to have a good Lenten experience ask yourself, “What do I need to give up and what do I need to do extra in order to draw closer to Jesus?” What stands in the way of stronger relationship with Jesus? What stands in the way of being the disciple that you are called to be? Remember we are all in this together. We are not alone.
In the Heart of Christ,
Fr. Dusty Burns
