From the Surfing Santa - Blue (Backing), cut:• (2) 64” x WOF strips for the backing. Sew the strips together and trim to make the 64” x 84” back.

Unit 1make 5
Block Assembly1. Place (1) 1 ½” Fabric C square on the top left corner of (1) 4 ½” Fabric A square, right sides together (Fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle ¼” away from the sewn seam (Fig. 2).

2. Follow Figure 3 for the seam direction to add a 1 ½” Fabric C square to each of the remaining corners of the 4 ½” Fabric A square to make (1) Unit 1 square (Fig. 4).
3. Repeat Steps 1-2 to make (5) Unit 1 squares total.

4. Repeat Steps 1-2 and refer to Figures 5-7 for fabric identification, placement and seam direction to make (4) Unit 2 squares, (4) Unit 3 squares and (13) Unit 4 squares.
5. Sew (1) 1” x 2 ½” Fabric C strip to each end of (1) 1” x 1 ½” Fabric B strip to make (1) Unit 5 strip (Fig. 8). Repeat to make (26) Unit 5 strips total.
6. Sew (1) 1” x 4 ½” Fabric C strip to each side of (1) Unit 1 square. Sew (1) Unit 5 strip to the top of the Unit 1 square and (1) 1” x 5 ½” Fabric C strip to the bottom of the Unit 1 square to make (1) Unit 6 square (Fig. 9). Repeat to make (5) Unit 6 squares total.

7. Sew (1) 3” x 5 ½” Fabric G strip to each side of (1) Unit 6 square. Sew (1) 3” x 10 ½” Fabric G strip to the top and to the bottom of the Unit 6 square to make (1) Unit 7 square (Fig. 10). Repeat to make (5) Unit 7 squares total.
8. Using a ruler, tilt the block as shown in Figure 11, trim (1) Unit 7 square to measure 7” square to make (1) Block One square. Repeat to make (5) Block One squares total.
9. Repeat Step 6-8 and refer to Figures 12-13 for component and fabric identification, placement and the correct tilt to make (4) Block Two squares and (4) Block Three squares.

Quilt Top Assembly(Follow the Quilt Layout while assembling the quilt top.)12. Sew the strip to the left side of the Center Block.

17. Sew (1) 2” x 61” Fabric I strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 2” x 44 ½” Fabric I strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block.
18. Sew (1) 6 ½” x 64” Fabric K strip to each side of the Center Block. Sew (1) 6 ½” x 56 ½” Fabric K strip to the top and to the bottom of the Center Block to make the quilt top.
19. Layer and quilt as desired.
20. Sew the (7) 2 ½” x WOF Fabric I strips together, end to end with 45-degree seams, to make the binding. Fold this long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.
21. Bind as desired.
