STAFF UPDATE The office and the KM community welcome a new friend. We are pleased to announce Alan Hudson, Brooke St James & Amy Jakoljevic to the KMAC family. Alan took up the role of CEO on the 15th September. In his last role as a Chief Executive Officer of Tiwi Islands Regional Council, Alan was responsible for the day to day running of the Council (a local Government Body under the Local Government Act NT), an area of nearly 8,000 square kilometres with three major townships and a population of approximately 3,500 people. We also welcome Brooke St James. Brooke who commenced on the 28th August and replaces Craig Huxtable as the new Manager, Member Services & Wellbeing Programs. Brooke has a wealth of experience in the development and management of internal business structures and procedures, and the development of strategic organizational plans, along with the planning, co-ordination and implementation of community projects and programs. An accomplished strategic planner with over 10 years’ experience working with PBCs and Aboriginal Corporations, Brooke is passionate about capacity building and the development of projects and programs which assist in building and representing strong, self-determined communities. Brooke has previously held positions at Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation, and Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation, along with running operations for a heritage management consultancy, and working in an advisory role in indigenous economic development. Brooke is incredibly excited to join KMAC and to work in partnership with the K&M community to deliver projects and programs that contribute to the independence and wellbeing of K&M people. Amy Jakovljevic has begun her position as the new executive support officer for the KML trust. Amy will be located in the KMAC office as a part time staff member. Amy was born and raised in Kununurra where we had a mango plantation and moved to Geraldton when I was 11. When she was 26 she started on my Pilbara adventure and moved to Paraburdoo. Since 2006 I have worked in Paraburdoo, Tom Price, Wickham, Dampier and now in Karratha. I’m a coffee loving furmumma to two cats and two Labrador’s. Amy started at KML two weeks ago in the role of Executive Support Officer. She has a strong background working as an administrator across a number of industries, including mining, engineering and manufacturing. She considers herself as analytical, problem solving and communication skills to be some of my core strengths. She has always established and maintained strong working relationships and a genuine camaraderie with peers, line managers and senior management.

She was kind enough to step into the role as interim CEO whilst the KMAC board were conducting interviews for the CEO. Thea has been in the KMAC office for six weeks while the Board was recruiting a new CEO. Thea says “KMAC is a very busy place and it is great to see how far things have moved forward in the year since she was last with the KM group. Part A Native Title determination is fabulous news and Part B is hopefully on the way. Cultural Heritage Management and Member Services and Well Being programs are now in full swing with and with well-planned directions, excellent management and clear benefits to the KM people who are now managing their own community affairs so confidently. The KM group has a great reputation in the community, and a bright future. It has been a great pleasure to be back in the family and she now has painting of the Hamersley Ranges to remind her of KM country.”

This will be to discuss what the group would look like having our own KM council. We are seeking 6 members from the ages of 16 – 25 years. Transport can be arrange if you would like to attend and lunch will be provided.

If you are interested please call the office and speak to Lilly for further information.
