The Corruption of the Race

Scripture text: Genesis Ch 6

Genesis 6:1-2 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.

Adam and Eve were instructed by God to multiply …

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

The task to multiply is presented in a very positive light and viewed as necessary to fulfill God’s plan on the Earth.

Yet this present passage, reveals that this God-mandated task leads to increasing wickedness on the Earth as the population expands. This problem is exacerbated by the coming together of the “sons of God” and the “daughters of man” (6:2).

The question that has been debated many by scholars is who are the “sons of God” and the “daughters of man”?

One school of thought about the “sons of God”Refer to Tyrannical human judges or kings (in the ungodly line of Lamech, possibly demon-possessed).

Another school of thought; Followers of God among the male descendants of Seth (i.e. the godly line of Seth, but who married the ungodly daughters of Cain.)

Yet I believe that there is another school of thought that only a few scholars agree on; that the “sons of God” are fallen angels mating with the daughters of man.

One thing that we can be sure of, the kind of relationship described here was not approved of, by Almighty God. This produced an unnatural union which violated the God-ordained order of human marriage and procreation (Gen. 2:24).

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.

Jude 1:6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day--

2 Peter 2:4-5 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

Mark 12:23-25 In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife." Jesus said to them, "Is this not the reason you are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God? For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

Genesis 6:1-2 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.

If the daughters of man, are just that [i.e. human], daughters, women, and we truly understand what this is saying. Then these sons of God would take these daughters without the permission of their fathers. This is abduction, kidnapping, and worse.

Which sheds new light to this scripture …

1 Corinthians 11:6-12 For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God.

Revelation 12:7-9 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world--he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

These were kicked out of Heaven, away from the presence of God. Would they do anything to try and get back?

Or is this more of a means to get back at Almighty God and His creation (i.e. mankind)?

So a thought process could be, if we can’t get to God, let’s deceive His prize creation so they can’t get there either.

Or let us corrupt them so bad that He will no longer want them.

Either choice here seems correct, for only 8 were saved from the Wrath of God. That was Noah and his family.

There was grievous sexual perversion, when the “sons of God” saw and with impunity took any woman (“daughters of man”) that they wanted.

The Sequence here in Genesis 6:2 (“saw … attractive [good] … took”) parallels the sequence of the fall in Genesis 3:6 (“saw … good … took”).

In both cases, something good in God’s creation is used in disobedience and sinful rebellion against God, with tragic consequences. Only Noah stands apart from this sin.

According to the Book of Enoch

Why listen to or read the writing of the Book of Enoch? It is considered extra biblical, yet it is also consider historical. The Bible must be used as a plumb line to judge all things where reading or hearing. I pray that you will prayerfully consider these words.

The fallen angels are called “watchers”.

Enoch 1:5 And all shall be smitten with fear, And the Watchers shall quake, And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth.

According to the Book of Enoch

Enoch 6:1-3 And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. 2. And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: 'Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.' 3. And Semjâzâ, who was their leader, said unto them: 'I fear ye will not indeed agree to do this deed, and I alone shall have to pay the penalty of a great sin.'

Enoch 7 And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.

Enoch 9:8 -10 And they have gone to the daughters of men upon the earth, and have slept with the women, and have defiled themselves, and revealed to them all kinds of sins. And the women have borne giants, and the whole earth has thereby been filled with blood and unrighteousness. And now, behold, the souls of those who have died are crying and making their suit to the gates of heaven, and their lamentations have ascended: and cannot ceasebecause of the lawless deeds which are wrought on the earth.

Enoch 10:6-9 And on the day of the great judgement he shall be cast into the fire. And heal the earth which the angels have corrupted, and proclaim the healing of the earth, that they may heal the plague, and that all the children of men may not perish through all the secret things that the Watchers have disclosed and have taught their sons. And the whole earth has been corrupted through the works that were taught by Azâzêl: to him ascribe all sin.' And to Gabriel said the Lord: 'Proceed against the bastards and the reprobates, and against the children of fornication: and destroy [the children of fornication and] the children of the Watchers from amongst men [and cause them to go forth]: send them one against the other that they may destroy each other in battle: for length of days shall they not have.

Enoch 12:3-4 And I, Enoch was blessing the Lord of majesty and the King of the ages, and lo! the Watchers called me--Enoch the scribe--and said to me: 'Enoch, thou scribe of righteousness, go, †declare† to the Watchers of the heaven who have left the high heaven, the holy eternal place, and have defiled themselves with women, and have done as the children of earth do, and have taken unto themselves wives: "Ye have wrought great destruction on the earth:

Genesis 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years."

Genesis 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.“ [NASB]

Almighty God announced that because of the immoral nature of people, their days shall be 120 years. Or it could also mean that His was about to destroy the whole Earth in 120 years?

1 Peter 3:17-20 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.

Genesis 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

Nephilim [nĕfˊə lĭm] (Heb. nep̱îlîm).* A predeluvial people,

the children of the “sons of God” and the “daughters of men” (Gen. 6:1–4). The term, of uncertain etymology, is rendered “giants” by the KJV, but appears to be distinct from the standard Hebrew term redupā˒îm). Their depiction as “mighty men … of old, the men of renown” (v. 4) suggests a legendary people of the distant past, portrayed as the gigantic offspring of an unnatural union between humans and divine beings in an attempt to bring moral indictment against the generations prior to the Flood.

Deuteronomy 2:18-22 'Today you shall cross over Ar, the border of Moab. 'When you come opposite the sons of Ammon, do not harass them nor provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the sons of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession.' (It is also regarded as the land of the Rephaim, for Rephaim formerly lived in it, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummin, a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim, but the LORD destroyed them before them. And they dispossessed them and settled in their place, just as He did for the sons of Esau, who live in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them; they dispossessed them and settled in their place even to this day.

Deuteronomy 3:8-11 "Thus we took the land at that time from the hand of the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, from the valley of Arnon to Mount Hermon (Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir): all the cities of the plateau and all Gilead and all Bashan, as far as Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. (For only Og king of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his bedstead was an iron bedstead; it is in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon. Its length was nine cubits and its width four cubits by ordinary cubit.) A cubit was about 18 inches or 45 centimeters

Numbers 13:30-33 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, "We should by all means go up and take possession of it, for we will surely overcome it." But the men who had gone up with him said, "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are too strong for us." So they gave out to the sons of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone, in spying it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great size. "There also we saw the Nephilim(the sons of Anak are part of the Nephilim); and we became like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

1 Samuel 17:3-7 The Philistines stood on the mountain on one side while Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, with the valley between them. Then a champion came out from the armies of the Philistines named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span [nearly 10’ tall]. He had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was clothed with scale-armor which weighed five thousand shekels of bronze. He also had bronze greaves on his legs and a bronze javelin slung between his shoulders. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and the head of his spear weighed six hundred shekels of iron; his shield-carrier also walked before him.
