Ask a question, identify a problem2. Seek out prior research related to your question / problem what do others have to say3. Decide on what data should be collected, how it should be collected and how often4. Collect and analyze data5. Describe your findings and how they can be used and applied6. Report or share your findings and plan for action with others.

*You may find yourself repeating some of these steps several times or doing them in a different order*17The Ethical ResearcherThe CITI training course is designed to help you understand and apply ethical methods of research when working with students.

The CITI link can be found at Marian Online and through the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs.18Chapter 2The Process Begins19Teachers who engage in action research projects become more flexible in their thinking, more receptive to new ideas and better able to solve problems as they arise.208 Easy Steps to Action Research 1. Create a plan of action (Module 7)21Before you start your researchYou can begin writing your paper and complete all modules 1-5 without IRB approval. You must have IRB approval prior to sending home permission letters and beginning any data collectionLets look at the IRB forms together!Lunch Time!
