1The 1st Intervention & ExplorationAdvisory Cycle will begin on September 22, 2014 Turn to pages 4 & 5 in your agenda. The Intervention & Exploration Advisory Period is explained on these two pages.

2Key Learning Targets (KLT)

What every student should know or be able to do after three weeks of instruction.

Based on the Common Core Standards for the subject.

The same for every student in your grade level and subject area.

Posted and/or announced by the teacher at the start of the lesson.

3Key Learning Assessments (KLA) No matter which teacher you have, everybody shows understanding of the KLTs in the same way with a common test, quiz, project, presentation, or piece of writing.

4Every three weeks, students have the chance to catch up, or have fun in a different sort of learning experience.5InterventionIf you learned what you needed to in the three week cycle - YAHOO!

If you didnt, dont worry, were going to give you another chance

that is what intervention is all about another opportunity to get it.

6You get INTERVENTIONif you need more time to master the key learning targets.

Study HallHomework is about:Practicing what you learned in classPreparing for what you are going to learn in class; and/orWorking on research or a long term project like a piece of writing, or a presentation.If you dont get it done at home, you could end up in Study Hall.

8You get STUDY HALLif you need more time to complete homework and class work assignments.

9Exploration ClassesSome of the things you do in these classes are:Sports & Physical Activities: yoga, dance, basketball, tennis, soccer, zoombaVisual & Performing Arts: drawing, painting, photography, drama, cartooning, sketchingHome Arts, Crafts & Hobbies: knitting, pet care, cooking, sewing, gardeningScience & Technology: robotics, water rockets, iMovies, video gamesLanguage & Literature: French, Spanish, Greek mythology, Shakespeare, film study, book club10

6th Grade Life Skills Every 6th grader will have a three week advisory class called Life Skills to learn about peer pressure, making good decisions, and getting along with others

7th Grade Crazy for College Every 7th grader will have a three week advisory class to learn about learning styles, positive habits, goal setting, high school graduation requirements, and college.

8th Grade Exhibition Every 8th grade student will have several weeks of an Advisory class to prepare for the 8th grade Exhibition in May. Students will use technology to create an oral presentation, and answer interview questions in preparation for high school.
