4th Grade• Arrival begins at 7:10 a.m. • Students walk up to classrooms at 7:30• Time for students to complete weekly work

• Students are considered tardy at 7:45 • Morning Prayer and SerraVision start at 7:45;

first class @ 8:00 a.m

4th Grade - Continued Snacks/lunches- On rainy days and Massdays, the snack bar is closed – pleaseplan accordingly. •Healthy foods ☺ Too much sugar makes for sluggish students.

• You child can pick up lunch if you drop it off on the lunch cart.

• If your child forgets a lunch, the snack bar provides a Lunchable. You will be billed later.

• Students may not call home for a forgotten lunch or homework assignments. Together we need to teach our students responsible habits.

Homework Policy

• Vacation/Sick days - When a child is absent from school he/she will have the same number of days absent to make up any work or tests.

• School Policy: No classwork and/or homework will be given out ahead of time for vacations

• Remember: No phone calls are permitted to bring in homework, books, iPad, etc.

Homework Guidelines

• All homework is to be neat and complete to receive ANY credit. Homework should take about 45-60 minutes each night.

• Homework will be posted on the Teachers web pages; however please do NOT rely on the web.

Students should be writing down homework using the My Homework app on their iPad.

• Late and/or missing work will result in the loss of 1 demerit per assignment.

Test Policies

Tests will be published ahead of time on bothSycamore and the Google calendar on the Teacher web pages. • Test Make-Ups: Students will receive as many make-up

days for studying as they were absent.

• There is no extra credit offered in 4th grade.

Sycamore vs. Edlio

This year we will be using Sycamore Education for gradebook and calendar that will show test dates and upcoming assignments. You will need to log into Sycamore if you wish to view your child’s grades and review the calendar.

Edlio will still be used for Teacher webpages where homework assignments will be posted along with other information the teacher needs to share. The Google calendar can also be found here.

Uniform Policy

Formal uniform is required on mass and reconciliation days • Girls must wear white, knee-high socks on formal days.• Boys must wear a belt with formal uniform.• Shirts may be worn untucked, except on formal days.• Shoes must match the uniform – no fluorescent colors.

Harvest shirts may be worn until Christmas break except on formal days.

P.E. uniform – Please wear P.E. shorts and t-shirt on P.E. days. Athletic shoes must be worn.

Note: If your child is unable to participate in P.E. for 2 or more days, a doctor’s note must be provided.

Birthday Celebrations

We love birthdays!

Free Dress – except on formal days. An alternative date will be arranged.

Treats – Recess/Snack is at 9:00. We prefer healthy, non-sugary treats. No nuts, please!

Merit Cards

• Every Monday your child will bring home his/her gold Parent Envelope and Merit Card for parent review.

• Please sign the Parent Envelope AND the Merit Card, and

have your child return both items the following day. This is our way of communicating to you about your child’s behavior, work habits and academic progress.

ask your child, and for further clarification, contact the homeroom teacher or teacher who deducted the demerit point.

CurriculumEvery child in 4th grade has been assigneda Reading/ELA and a Math teacher. Eachteacher is following the same curriculum, buteach teacher will have her own teaching style and pace.

Reading Wonders incorporates reading, writing,vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. It is based on theCommon Core State Standards and is presented in a100% digital format.

Accelerated Reader points will be assigned on an individual basis based on each student’s STAR Reading test results. AR counts for 10% of the student’s overall LA grade.

Math – The Pearson enVision Math programwas adopted for use in the 2015-16 school yearfor grades 3-5. The 100% digital format supports the Common Core State Standards.

ST Math is game-based instructional softwaredesigned to boost math comprehension andproficiency.

Science/Social Studies - 2 days a week

Religion/Family Life• Focus is on the Ten Commandments • Family Life integrated throughout the year - look for parent permission form to read and sign!
