PTA & The Law
Did you know…• PTA is governed and regulated by the same laws that affect other nonprofit
organizations?• PTA & The Law deals with state/federal rules and regulations for running a charitable,
tax-exempt, non-profit corporation in the state of Washington.
Some of what we learned1. Raffles are considered to be gambling activities (everyone paid, game of chance)
2. A PTA may only do 2 gambling activities a year without a license and not make more than $5,000 in a calendar year. OR… apply for a gambling license!
3. To limit liability to a PTA, everything to the school should be granted
