Campus tours for visitors led by UW–Madison students are offered on various weekdays at 3 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday at 12 p.m. Tours are not available on Badger home football Saturdays or holidays. Prospective undergraduate visits provide students and families with an opportunity to explore UW–Madison and its resources with the guidance of a student tour guide and an admissions counselor. Half-day group visits include an information session, campus tour, and the opportunity to visit a class and meet with an academic advisor. The Babcock Hall Dairy Store is an ice cream shop, retail store, and small dining room serving breakfast and lunch, and offers dairy products (milk, cheese, and ice cream) made in-house. Visit the observation deck to view the dairy plant, which is open to the public for self-guided tours.

The Bascom Hill Historic District is comprised of UW–Madison's oldest campus buildings, including Bascom Hall, North Hall, and South Hall. Learn more about the area's rich history by reading the 12 plaques, visiting the Abraham Lincoln Statue, or scheduling a Bascom Hill tour by calling 608-265-9500.

Located just south of campus, Dane County’s Henry Vilas Zoo is an admission-free, community sponsored zoo and serves as a leader in animal care, sustainability, and conservation education. The zoo is open daily from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

MONONA TERRACE COMMUNITY AND CONVENTION CENTERmononaterrace.com

Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center opened its doors in 1997 after 60 years of deliberation and has continued to be an essential destination for Madisonians and visitors alike. First designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1938, today nearly 390,000 people visit the facility every year for community gatherings, social events, conventions, and meetings.

Home to the second-largest collection of art in Wisconsin, the Chazen Museum of Art contains more than 20,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, and decorative arts. Exhibits frequently change and tours are available throughout the year. Admission is free.

It is no small secret that dairy is a huge part of what makes Wisconsin special. Visit the Dairy Cattle Center from 4:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to watch and learn how cows are milked.

The Center for Textiles and Design, located in the School of Human Ecology’s Nancy Nicholas Hall, includes the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection, as well as the Ruth Davis Design Gallery. Allen Centennial Garden is an outdoor classroom for UW–Madison students and the surrounding community offering a peaceful respite, a beautiful walk, and a visually stimulating place to relax. The garden is open daily from sunrise to sunset.

With more than 500 different types of plants from all over the world, Botanical Garden is an important resource for teaching and research and provides a leisure area for students and community members. Botanical Garden is located between Lathrop Hall and Chamberlin Hall.

BOTANY GREENHOUSE botany.wisc.edu

The Botany Greenhouse is a refuge of greenery and serenity showcasing more than 1,000 species in distinct aquatic, desert, and tropical communities. Tours are available by appointment.

D.C. SMITH GREENHOUSE dcsmithgreenhouse.cals.wisc.edu

The D.C. Smith Greenhouse is a 10,000- square-foot tropical greenhouse that consists of 10 growing bays and a 1,600-square-foot conservatory. The conservatory is an example of the relatively new discipline of interiorscaping. Tours are available by appointment.

UW–Madison Arboretum is devoted to ecological restoration research, practice, and education. The 1,200-acre grounds are home to restored prairies, woodlands, wetlands, and savannas, Longenecker Horticultural Gardens, and the Wisconsin Native Plant Garden. Visitors can also enjoy 20 miles of walking trails, 4 miles of biking road, and many learning and volunteer opportunities.

OLBRICH BOTANICAL GARDENS olbrich.org

Olbrich Botanical Gardens on Madison’s east side features 16 acres of specialty gardens, the Bolz Conservatory, and the Thai Pavilion and Garden, a gift to UW–Madison from the Thai Government and the Thai Chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association. Self-guided tours, group visits, concerts, and other programming are offered throughout the year.

LAKESHORE NATURE PRESERVElakeshorepreserve.wisc.edu

Lakeshore Nature Preserve is an outdoor teaching and research facility sheltering significant plant and animal communities. It includes 300 acres of woods, wetlands, open fields, restored prairie/savanna, four miles of shoreline, and 12 miles of walking trails. The Howard M. Temin Lakeshore Path extends from the Memorial Union, past Picnic Point, and ends at Oxford Road in Shorewood Hills.

For thousands of years, Native Americans have lived along the shores of Lake Mendota. Within the Preserve are examples of ancient earthen mounds used for burials and ceremonies. Near Willow Creek is a group of effigy style mounds. Other mound groups can be found on Observatory Hill, Picnic Point, and at Eagle Heights.
