LATEST NEWS... The Rougemont Review Issue 13: 12 January 2018 WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL Mr Andy Knight Welcome to the first newsleer of 2018. Welcome back to a new term and I hope you all had a fantasc Christmas. As we return we are geng closer to the compleon of the Auditorium, Refectory and Sixth Form Centre. We are on target for a handover at the end of July, followed by the fit out in August to open for the start of September 2018. There are many ongoing projects which are hoped to be ready for September 2018 that we feel will make further improvements to the facilies and provision offered at the School. You will read in today’s newsleer about the significant changes planned for catering with Iain Jackson and the implementaon of a biometric system. Partnerships will also be key to the School moving forward and as we connue to finalise plans for Hollies Nursery for pre-nursery provision for September 2018, we are pleased to announce that we are also working with Chrisan Malcolm’s athlecs academy which will operate from the School and work closely with our pupils. Improving our current infrastructure is also a priority for the School moving foward and work is currently underway with our new IT provider, Computer World Wales, to replace the old servers and back up facility which will be completed by February half term. Further excing projects will be announced in due course. Enjoy the weekend and good luck to all pupils aending the Scholarship assessments tomorrow. The Coffee Shop is currently undergoing a few changes and is now offering extended opening hours from Monday to Saturday, with a new range of tasty home baked desserts, freshly made soups and even a full carvery roast lunch planned for next week. Staff and sixth formers alike have been ckling their tastebuds with the new food. With the new opening hours and even a full cooked breakfast now on offer from 7.30am, don’t forget that parents and visitors to Rougemont are also more than welcome to visit the Coffee Shop to sample the tasty treats. Whilst this has all been taking place, Iain has also been taking a look at our current School meal provision and adapng menus for the remainder of the academic year in preparaon for moving into the new refectory. Whilst certain changes such as the introducon of a new salad bar won’t happen unl the move takes place, menus for the remainder of the year will reflect a move forward and are being designed to ensure pupils are offered a wider range of opons. Included in the plans for this year are a series of themed days - the first of which will take place on 16th February to celebrate Chinese New Year. Any pupils not currently on the School meal system who wish to partake in a themed day will of course be able to purchase a meal voucher in advance. We look forward to seeing the Asian feast that Iain is currently planning! FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD... As you may have already seen on the website and social media, catering at Rougemont is already experiencing some great improvements since Iain Jackson joined the team. NAME THE COFFEE SHOP To celebrate the new look coffee shop, Iain is also running a compeon to name the venue. Pupils are invited to hand their suggesons into the Recepon of each School area by Friday 19th January. One winner will be chosen from each School with the final 3 entries judged by a panel of staff . The chosen winner will receive a £25 giſt voucher and see the new name adorn the building. Runners up will all receive a free cake of their choice from the newly named venue. FUTURE PROOFING As we connue to make progress with the fit out plans for the new build, we are delighted to announce that we have incorporated a new biometric fingerprint system into the building. This will inially be used to allow pupils from Juniors upwards to purchase their snacks and meals in the new refectory. Operated via an online payment system, it will not only allow you, as parents, full control over how much money you assign to your children, it will also provide you with the opportunity to see what your children are eang each day. The system also has the scope to allow us to add biometric entry points into buildings, payment opons for acvies and more. More informaon and details on how to opt into the scheme will be provided later in the term.

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL

Welcome to the fi rst newslett er of 2018.

Welcome back to a new term and I hope you all had a fantasti c Christmas. As we return we are getti ng closer to the completi on of the Auditorium, Refectory and Sixth Form Centre. SENIOR STORIESHappy new year to all our Rougemont families and welcome back to a super Spring Term!

The children have returned ready to embrace the challenges of the term ahead, and they have taken the ti me to refl ect upon possible new year goals and resoluti ons. Even our Year 3s rose to the challenge, sharing the following goals:“Don’t complain when it’s ti me to go shopping.”“Eat more parsnips.”“Stop getti ng up early at weekends.”“Stop being noisy.”

Happy New Year!Mr Carnevale began the term with a welcome assembly, where we looked at the year ahead and the opportuniti es available. There is certainly a lot going on; as a look at the co-curricular programme will confi rm! We hope that all Rougemont students will use the New Year to hone existi ng skills as well as to develop some new ones. In a smaller assembly on Monday, we talked about resoluti ons and how New Year is celebrated in diff erent countries. Academically it is already very busy with year 11 receiving their Maths GCSE results, the Sixth Form completi ng their mock exams, and the KS3 award well underway. An exciti ng and busy start to the new term!

CHRISTIAN MALCOLM PARTNERSHIP

We are delighted to welcome award winning coach and athlete Christi an Malcolm as a new partner to Rougemont. Christi an, already known for his Olympic success, received Coach of the Year at both the Welsh and Nati onal Sports Personality of the Year Awards and the UK Sports Awards 2017. Christi an will be launching his CMSA Trackfi t sessions from this Saturday morning onwards from 10-11am. Off ering Sprint training for children aged 4 - 17 years, Christi an will also be delivering Family sessions throughout early 2018. A February Half Term Camp will also take place from 21 February.
