Storm Damage on MR54 Junction Point Road
between Tuena and Abercrombie Bridge
Following two storms over the region, approximately 60
mm of rain fell last Thursday 16 January, and another 20
mm on Monday 20 January , the MR54 Junction Point
Road between Tuena and the Abercrombie bridge has
been impacted by storm damage. Around 3.5 km of our
drainage network & road structure are requiring repairs.
Council are currently putting together a program for the
RMS of what is required to repair the damage sustained.

Disaster recovery processes launched by NSW Government

Public Works Advisory
The NSW Government is coordinating the clean-up of NSW residences and businesses impacted by the NSW bushfires. This includes both insured and uninsured properties.
Public Works Advisory (PWA), in consultation with property owners, is leading the clean-up effort with in-surers, local government and contractors, to ensure that properties are efficiently and safely cleared. Full

The NSW Government has also announced the
Service NSW Bushfire Customer Care service.
This service is designed to help individuals and businesses impacted by bushfire to navigate the support that is available to them across all levels of government.
Given the unprecedented nature of the fires and scale of destruction, there is a need to boost current arrangements.
This service will complement and not replace the excellent work that has been delivered by disaster re-covery agencies, councils, NGOs and communities since the beginning of this bushfire season and which is ongoing.
Customers impacted by bushfires will be encouraged to call Service NSW on 13 77 88, see a Service NSW team member in a Disaster Recovery Centre, visit a Service NSW Centre or Mobile Service Centre, or go to www.service.nsw.gov.au for assistance.
Types of assistance we can help with include:
• Accommodation advice • Relevant charitable services • Mental health and wellbeing services • Support for businesses • Clean-up services • Financial assistance • Grants and rebates • Insurance and legal support • Replacing lost ID • Volunteer RFS and SES payments
The customer is being asked to:
• Contact Service NSW online, in person or over the phone • Answer some questions on how they have been impacted by the fires and what help they need • If they have a one-off request or need, Service NSW helps navigate the application process or conducts a warm handover to the relevant agency offering the service • The customer will also be offered ongoing support to navigate the recovery process by a Service NSW Customer Care specialist and/or a Business Concierge specifically designed to help small business operators Please also note that the Disaster Welfare Assistance Line’s number 1800 018 444 is now redirecting to the Service NSW number 13 77 88.

Upper Lachlan Shire Council advises
that the following roads are impacted
by bushfires and are still closed to all
but local traffic:
Wombeyan Caves Road
Bannaby Road
Newfoundland Road
Mares Forest Road
Hanworth Road
Adavale Road
Brayton Road (parts of)
Assessments are currently being carried out on affected infrastructure.
Once approval has been received Council will assist with the clean-up and removal of debris as well as repairs to damaged infrastructure. For ongoing updates, please

MEDIA RELEASE: Kennedy Street water standpipe vandalised
The Kennedy Street water standpipe in Crookwell has
been vandalised following recent measures to ensure the
fair use and security of water during drought conditions and
while level 2 water restrictions are applied to the Crookwell
town water supply.
In an attempt to evade the lock system put in place,
silicone has been inserted into the lock causing damage to
it.
Acting General Manager Andrew Croke said he was very
disappointed that the standpipe locking system has been
vandalised.
“Measures were only introduced to ensure the security of
the water supply for genuine resident users,” he said.
The decision to lock the Kennedy Street standpipe from
8.00pm to 6.00am was made following discussion with
Council’s water operations staff based upon the following:
Safety concerns for persons utilising the standpipe –
no lighting or passive surveillance in the event of an accident.
Concerns regarding the traffic congestion and noise to
the adjacent and adjoining residences.
Protection of Council’s infrastructure – protection of
pumps (resting and inability to repair pump in a timely and cost efficient measure)
Protection of the aquifer
Reports by residents of alleged illegal use of water
extracted
Vandalism
“Council received reports of heavy overnight use and so a
lock was put in place,” Mr Croke said.
“Since then average usage has dropped significantly while
still allowing ample access for local users during the day.”
From 26th November 2019 to 12
th January 2020, an
average of 885 KL was being consumed from the Kennedy
Street water standpipe per week. In the week since the
lock has been in place, the water consumption has
dropped to 556 KL per week, a reduction of approximately
40%.
Mr Croke said that the standpipe will continue to be
monitored and that Council will take appropriate action
where necessary.
“The standpipe is primarily for the use of Upper Lachlan
residents, and so we urge local users to let Council know if
it’s being abused or damaged,” he said.
Commercial users are welcome to use Council water
standpipes but require an agreement with Council to do so
and are encouraged to contact Council’s offices to arrange
an agreement.
Users of the standpipe are also urged to turn off the valve
slowly to reduce the chance of damage. The hours of
operation of the Kennedy Street water standpipe are from
6am to 8pm.
Council will be installing security cameras and permanent
water measuring devices at a number of its standpipes as
per a Council resolution at the December Ordinary
Meeting.
