Monday 10th August
Today you will need: • Writing Paper • Pencil • Device
Reading Writing Maths
Learning intention
We are learning about the design process.
We are learning about how technology could change in the future.
We are learning about addition and subtraction strategies
Success criteria
I can: ● explain what the design process is ● list the design process steps
I can: ● make predictions about inventions
in the future ● show my thinking using a mindmap
I can: ● Use a number line to jump to the
answer.
Task Webex remote teaching session WebEx class lesson starts at 9am. Please log on 5 minutes before and have the resources listed below ready. You will need:
● Device with internet access ● Writing paper ● Pencil
Please note:
● Attendance will be marked. ● Camera on, and microphone
muted ● You will be required to upload
your work to Microsoft Teams today.
1. Think about the book read during your online session this morning - ‘Inventing the Future’. You can look at the book again on the Reading Eggspress Library if you like.
2. Watch this clip about what the future might be like to help you with your own ideas: https://clickv.ie/w/I2-n - there are a few chapters, you don’t have to watch them all.
3. Write down some ideas you have about inventions that we might have in the future using a mindmap like the example below.
Today you have the option to choose your addition level. If you complete the ‘something easy’ make sure you go on and try the ‘something harder’. Something easy:
1. Watch this first: ‘How to use a number line’. https://safeYouTube.net/w/93eP
2. Print or draw the number line up to 20. Using the example below complete these addition problems using the number line. You must show your workings out like the one below.

3. Play this game to now test your
knowledge. http://www.hbschool.com/activity/numberline1_5_04/
Something harder:
1. Watch this first: ‘How to use an open number line’. https://safeYouTube.net/w/d4eP
2. Draw a line across your page and work out these addition problems. You MUST show your workings out

Reading Writing Maths
Learning
intention
We are learning about the different problems in our ocean.
We are learning to identify the key words of our topic and understand their meaning.
To describe, compare and identify symmetry in shapes.
Weekly Planner – Grade 3 – Week 5 30/07/2020
P:\Staff\Administration\!COVID-19 Preparations\Remote learning #2\Week 5\Grade 3\Grade 3 T3WK5 Remote Learning Weekly Planner.docx
Success
criteria
I can:
● Read the book ‘Watch Over Our Water’.
● Answer comprehension questions.
I can:
● Create a glossary of words related to problems in the ocean.
● Use a dictionary to find the meaning of my words.
I can:
● Use everyday language to describe and compare shapes and objects.
● Identify symmetry in natural and constructed environments
Task 1. Read the book ‘Watch Over Our Water’ by Lisa Bullard. https://www.getepic.com/app/read/48435
2. Write down the heading ‘Watch Over Our Water’ at the top of your page and answer the following questions:
● Who needs water to live? ● Almost all the Earth’s water
is what kind of water? ● What does the word
conserve mean?
● Name one thing you can do to conserve water?
● What is the families ‘special rule’ for their toilet at home?
● What does litter do to water?
● Why is dirty water bad?
1. Think about the different words you have been using this week to describe problems in our ocean.
ie: plastic, debris, pollution, rubbish, ocean.
2. Using these words, you are to create your own glossary. ‘A glossary is a list of words and their meanings’.
3. Using a dictionary or the Kids Britannica website https://kids.britannica.com/ Search for your words and find their meanings. Write the meanings for your words down in your glossary.
Example Glossary:
1. Watch this ClickView video to learn about symmetry: https://clickv.ie/w/s--n
What is symmetry? Symmetry is when an object can be divided into identical halves. For example the triangle below has a dotted line through its centre. You can see that left side of the triangle is exactly the same as the right.
2. The picture below has a direct line of symmetry through its centre. Your task is to draw the right hand side of the pig. Remember true symmetry means that one side will mirror the other.

3. Look around your house. Draw three objects that would have a direct line of symmetry through their centre (Indicate this with a dotted line).
Example: Apple

● Design a poster to inform
people of the impacts
pollution has on our ocean.
I can:
● Use everyday language to
describe and compare
shapes and objects.
● Identify symmetry in natural
and constructed
environments
Task Webex remote teaching session
WebEx class lesson starts at 9am.
Please log on 5 minutes before and have the resources listed below ready.
You will need:
1. Watch:
Ocean Facts for Kids -

Pollution
https://safeYouTube.ne
t/w/ydgQ
This week you have collected a
number of facts about caring
for our ocean.
1. Your task is to design a
poster including ‘Did
you Know?’ facts.
*Remember - the purpose of a
poster is to inform the reader
and draw attention to
information. Be as creative as
you like…
1. Choose one of the 3 symmetrical pictures available and draw its other half *Pictures are at the bottom of the planner labelled Maths Activity 1 - Friday 14th
2. Fold a blank piece of paper in half.
● Choose a symmetrical object from your home

*Take notes of some of
the facts - these will
support you for your
writing session today.
3. This text identifies
many ‘plastic’
problems. Go back to
the page titled ‘How
Plastic is your home’
and identify plastics in
your home that have a
practical alternative.
Draw up a T-Chart to
present your answers.
Example:
Product Alternative
Plastic soap dispenser in bathroom.
Use a Bar of soap to wash your hands.
You can design your poster on
paper or create it using a
computer application you are
familiar with.
Upload your poster to
Microsoft Teams in your
Individual folder.
that you would like to draw (e.g. toy).
● Draw half of the object on the left hand side of your paper.
● Upload it to Microsoft Teams - Grade 3 General channel.
● Select someone else's symmetrical drawing. You will need to draw the missing right side of a friend's picture on a new piece of paper.
● Reply back to them with the finished product.
Miss Deny and Miss Sutherland will post an example of this in the morning.
