Dear Parents/Carers

Lights, Camera, Action! Tonight we are holding our first MOVIE Night since 2019, with the

children in Years 3,4,5 and 6 invited to the school for the screening of Dreambuilders. The

evening will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to be with their peers,

commencing the film at 6.30pm. Children should arrive between 6.15pm and the 6.30pm

start time, with the pick-up time being 8.15pm. The inclusion of popcorn and drink with

the admission is a winning combination and we hope to see as many children as possible

there tonight.

The cost per student is $10 with all proceeds going back

to our students at OPS. All children must be collected

from the hall by an adult. A huge thank you to the P&C

and OPS staff for their assistance with the evening.

Last week our Year 6 children really did have the most wonderful time at Broken Bay with

an array of amazing stories being told on Monday. It was clear to see many students took

a lot from the week without the assistance of Mum and Dad. This growth in independence

is all part of life and development and we are so lucky to have staff who give their time to

allow such great opportunities. Many students really stepped out of their comfort zones

to attempt several challenging activities and simply seek to assist others at different times.

Well done to all students attending as you have really done us proud. A huge thank you

also to all parents for a great pick up process on Friday evening with everyone there, ready

to collect.

On Monday the students received their Semester 1 reports. At any point please feel free

to ring the school to discuss any concerns regarding the reports with the class teacher.

Also, on Monday we had students attend the Western Region trials for Touch Football

with Mackenzie Thornberry and Lyla Callaway gaining selection into the girls western

team, while in the boys Lewis Hannan was successful with selection. Congratulations to all

who trialled and those selected.

Our Rugby League team headed off to Canowindra yesterday

for the NSW PSSA Western Divisional Gala Day. In our pool, our

team played three games winning 32-0 against Parkes, 38-0

against Calare, then in a very tight game against Wallerawang

we won 18-14. The boys will now progress through to the

Western Finals in Dubbo week 2 of term 3 to attempt to win the Western Region Title.

Well done to the boys and to Mr Bale for an outstanding day.

The school was delighted to have two students named as NSW Student Voices in the Arts Council.

William Robinson and Jocelyn Miller have been selected as members of the student council from a

state wide application process. Having two representatives really does emphasise how our children

jump at every opportunity.

Yesterday the Debating team was back in action with a round against Orange East Public School and again the children

really shone with solid arguments and quick rebuttal skills. Well done to the team and a huge cheer for Will Robinson

who has just joined and taken the challenge in his stride. Our Year 5 debating team will also be in action today up

against Molong Central School. I am sure they will give it their all.

Orange Public School held both the Junior & Senior Spelling Bee Finals in Week 8,

with participants testing their spelling skills on stage in front of their peers. All

finalists displayed tenacity and prowess, especially when faced with unknown

words. Congratulations to our Senior Champion, Rayyan N from 6 Amber and

to our Junior Champion, Sam D from 3 Burgundy. Both boys will represent OPS in

the regional finals to be held in Term 3. Thank you to Mrs Emmi and Mrs Wakeman

for coordinating and facilitating this event.

This week we wish the very best to Mrs Tushuizen who will be taking maternity leave to have her second child. We

wish Amanda and Scott our best wishes for this exciting time. The school will also sadly be saying goodbye to Danny,

who is one of our incredible cleaners at the Primary Site. Danny is retiring and we wish him a wonderful retirement

and sincere thanks for his efforts, work ethic and being a truly valued member of the OPS team.

This term the school was approached by the OPS Netball Club with the suggestion to allow our young ladies to wear

their OPS netball jumpers during the winter terms on sports days. After consideration, the school has agreed as we

recognise that OPS is the only public school netball club with over a third of all girls enrolled at the school involved in

the club. As such, for term 3 the jumpers can be worn on Fridays only please.

Soon we will start to strongly promote the OPS Open Gardens weekend that is scheduled for Saturday 13th November.

Last year our wonderful community event was unable to go ahead due to Covid but we are so excited to be again

welcoming families to greater Orange in November to view what could only be described as some of Orange’s premier

gardens. Look for details in upcoming newsletters. A huge thank you to the Garden Committee for their work to date

as events such as these do not happen overnight.

Both the girls and boys touch football teams were scheduled to play tomorrow against Glenroi Public School. However

due to the expected rain these games have been rescheduled for Term 3, Week 2.

Our school band and music program are truly amazing, providing opportunity for over 250 students to learn an

instrument weekly. This program is supported strongly by the school but does require payment for each child’s

involvement in this extra curricular program. At this moment the school is facing a significant shortfall in fees owing

and request all families involved in the program to check their accounts and make steps to pay money required ASAP.

Leading into next term the school will be moving towards some child protection lessons and content as part of the

Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum that emphasises care of children. This program will be communicated with

parents prior to its commencement for each grade.

Finally I wish everyone a very happy holiday break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term 3.

Bradley Tom, Principal
