Dear Parents

How great were the Holidays! I would like to welcome everyone back to what will be a

blur in time being term 4 as we speed towards Christmas and the end of the year. This

term the school will be running to keep up with the busy schedule leading up to the end

of the year starting with the ongoing hard work being put into academic improvement.

This will be complimented however with a host of events that make up term 4 ranging

from sports, performing arts, presentation events and events solely based around

opportunity and fun. So strap in and hang on.

Starting the term we have been delighted with the student’s return and the excitement

they have displayed being back at school. This week all classes commenced with very

positive feedback by teachers on how well the children recommenced their lessons. Year

6 have commenced a wonderful unit based on social friendships using the novels

Hating Alison Ashley and Wonder.

Tonight we are looking forward to having parents of the 2019 kindergarten cohort come

into the school for an information session, commencing at 5pm in the Infants library.

The purpose of the session is to again further inform parents of what happens during the

transition period leading into school life and also detail the programs and routines that

will be experienced by their child at the start of Kindergarten. The 1 hour session is very

quick and highly valued and we strongly recommend attendance.

This week our Infants’ students will be limbering up, readying themselves for the Infants

Sports Day, being held at Wade Park on Friday. This is always a great day with a range of

fun events and races keeping everyone highly engaged and excited. We welcome parents

to come along to cheer and enjoy the day with us. Please ensure your child has their

sports uniform for running and also their school hat and sunscreen for protection in the

sun.

Next week we really start at a pace with the school showcasing our music programs.

We will be hosting a concert evening on Tuesday night. We are so excited in what will

be a very special night, we are presenting our bands, choirs, ensembles, strings and

guitar groups to parents and wider audience. Our students involved in the music

programs do not get the recognition they deserve considering the effort they have put

into rehearsals so we see this as an outstanding opportunity to say well done to these

wonderful students and a big thank you to parents who often assist in the reminding of

musical practise. In total we are expecting approximately 220 students to be performing

on the night which is close to 1/3 of our student population which indicates the value we

place into the performing arts at Orange Public School. The evening will commence with

the children arriving at 5.30pm to be ready for the opening performance at 6pm.

Also next week on Wednesday evening the P&C will be holding a disco at the Primary Communal Hall. The format

will see the Infants disco commence at 4.30pm to 6pm followed by the Primary disco commencing at 6.30pm and

concluding at 8pm. Admission to the disco will $5 payable on the night. During the evening the children will be

able to purchase some lollies and drinks with all proceeds going to the P&C in support of the school. All children

must be collected from the hall at the conclusion of their disco and it is very important to collect children at the

correct time.

Next week the school will be playing host to up to 50 Principals and an additional 50 Senior Administration

Managers who will be participating in Professional Learning based on the new HR system being implemented by

the NSW Department of Education. Our visitors will be working in the Primary library for the week and we are

delighted to be able to offer our school as the venue for the training.

In sport our girls touch football team will be in action on Monday in the final of the Western Region

championships with the possibility of the girls then being required to play in Sydney the following Monday at the

State Championships if successful. Good Luck girls.

Our boys are also playing next week in the 5th round of the PSSA cricket competition on Tuesday. Mrs Smith is

very excited with the boys being very dominant in their previous games and has high hopes for the day.

One of the most exciting things this term will be the Orange Public School Open Gardens weekend. This initiative

of the OPS P&C will see 8 of Orange’s most exquisite gardens open to the public with Orange Public School

coordinating the day. The Open Gardens will occur on Saturday 10th November and we are certain that the entire

community and visitors to Orange will appreciate this event. More information will be distributed throughout the

month leading towards the event with the excitement bound to grow.

Finally I would like to thank all parents for their outstanding efforts towards our change of uniform as our children

are looking sharp in the summer uniform. As has been mentioned, the school has been working with the P&C over

the course of the year to initiate an additional option for girls during summer, incorporating shorts. We are

pleased to say we have moved forward in our process and are now working with manufacturers in readiness for

the next phase of implementation. The manufacturers have indicated they will be able to offer the option at the

start of Term 4 2019. The process of any uniform change is one that involves considerable consultation and I thank

the members of the P&C, the staff and the wider community for their involvement.

Enjoy the week.
